KANSAS CITY -- Adam Dunn wanted his 400th career homer to be meaningful, and he got his wish.
Dunn hit his milestone blast in the eighth inning against Royals left-hander Tim Collins to pull the Sox to within 5-4 in the eighth inning of their game at Kauffman Stadium on Saturday night. The ball was hit to left-center field and traveled 428 feet.
The homer came after Kevin Youkilis singled for his 1,000th career hit.
Paul Konerko hit his 400th earlier this season. Dunn and Konerko are the first set of teammates to hit 400 in the same season.
Dunn leads the majors with 35 home runs this season.
"Hopefully [No. 400] happens in a big situation --- a meaningful home run and not just a homer that doesn't mean anything,'' Dunn said this week.

I AM THE BIGGEST FAN OF ADAM DUNN. EVEN THOUGH I LIVE IN SAN FRANCISCO I HAVE FOLLOWED HIS CAREER. HE IS AN ALL OR NOTHING TYPE OF PLAYER I LIKE TO WATCH. EITHER IT'S A HOMER, WALK, OR STRIKOUT. HIS ON BASE PERCENTAGE IS AMAZING. THE GREATEST SLUGGER WE'VE HAD THE PAST DECADE. HE IS SO UNDERRATED AS A PLAYER. HE HELPS HIS TEAM WIN SO MUCH!! HE HITS THE LONGEST HOME RUNS EVER. AND I JUST KNOW HE DOESN'T EVEN NEED TO TAKE STEROIDS. THEY CAN TEST HIM ANY TIME. HE BELONGS IN THE HALL OF FAME.
I agree 100% with Patrick only thing is that all or nothing part. Because as a professional hitter Adam Dunn faces the infield shift more then any hitter ive seen.
In saying that he constantly pulls the ball into the shift anyway straight back up the middle would get Adam 2-3 more hits and Rbi's a game. Adjustments seem's are being made by everybody but our hitters of late. We can win with a 2-3 hit inning as well as the long ball nobody put's the ball in play with runners in scoring position & it's getting frustrating because the homerun is not going to come every night you have to manufactor runs even when the offense is not hot. Come on Chi Sox pick it back up 1-7 against DETROIT UGH!!! GO SOX GO!!!
