Sources have told the Sun-Times that Sox bench coach Joey Cora is no longer a finalist for the Seattle managerial opening, and in all likelihood will be back on the bench for the 2009 season.
Cora, who could not be reached for comment, was one of seven candidates brought in the last week.
The Mariners are yet to make the announcement final, but Oakland bench coach Don Wakamatsu is believed to be the choice.

Hopeful for Joey to get a MLB Managerial gig eventually. But very elated to see him being back next to Ozzie on the Sox bench. As I am sure Ozzie is also.
Joey, be careful for what you wish for. Seattle is one crappy team with a bankrupt farm system; Wakamatsu has been hired and set up to be fired.
