AL Central Watch: June 21

Here's a quick glance at what's happening around the American League Central during a Cubs-Sox Saturday in Chicago.

Watch out again for the Twins. They beat Randy Johnson and the Diamonbacks on Friday, giving and them seven wins in nine games, moving Minnesota 3 1/2 behind the first-place White Sox.

Tigers reliever Fernando Rodney took a page out of Dontrelle Willis’ book on wild pitching, throwing eight pitches and no strikes during a stinker of an outing against the Padres. On the flip side, fellow setup man Joel Zumaya hit 100 mph in his return to the Tigers’ bullpen.

The Indians’ bullpen blew up, but Jhonny Peralta came up big as the Indians beat the Dodgers in Los Angeles.

Meanwhile, read all about the ambidextrous pitcher who met up with the switch-hitting batter.

Check back later for updates.

What Jay Mariotti calls a "blunder" on the part of Guillen to remove the lefthanded pitching Danks in the seventh inning and putting in one of his solid righthanded relievers to face the Cubs' three, four, and five hitters - all righthanded hitters - Bob Brenly called "the absolute right move to make". Yes, that's right: former Major League player and World Series winning manager Brenly was quick to point out that Guillen made the right move, but that sometimes in the game of baseball the right move doesn't always work out the way it should. Mariotti, not so surprisingly, saw it another way. Perhaps he should have gone down into the Sox' clubhouse after the game to talk further with Guillen about the move if he thought it was so bad. You know, talk to him and get a better idea of what his thought process was before going and writing yet another predictable slam job on the guy. That's what a responsible journalist would do, right?

JAY MARRIOTI:

YOU'VE GOT TO STOP WITH THESE RANTS AND RAVES ABOUT OZZIE BECAUSE NO ONE REALLY CARES WHAT YOU THINK. THE PAPER THAT YOUR COLUMNS ARE PRINTED ON ARE BEST USED AS A BIRD CAGE LINER -- GET MY DRIFT BUTTHEAD? YOU THINK THAT YOUR SO ABOVE EVERYONE ELSE IN THE WORLD THAT YOU CAN WRITE YOUR COLUMNS IN ANYWAY ABOUT ANYONE YOU WISH TO.

GUESS WHAT WANNABE MAN, YOU'RE THE BE ALL END ALL OF ANYTHING, AND YOU SHOULD WATCH TAPES OF YOURSELF ON AROUND THE HORN BECAUSE IT'S THE BEST WAY TO SHOW YOU YOUR VERY OWN IGNORANCE. YOU ARE A WANNABE ATHLETE THAT NEVER MADE IT IN SPORTS AS A KID, SO NOW YOU MUST TAKE IT OUT ON THOSE THAT HAVE MORE ATHLETIC ABILITY IN ONE FINGER THAT YOU HAVE IN YOUR WHOLE BODY. DO ME A HUGE FAVOR, PULL YOUR BOTTOM LIP OVER YOUR HEAD, AND SWALLOW YOURSELF. I'M SO FREAKING SICK OF YOUR BRAINDEAD AND PATHETIC RANTS ABOUT OZZIE AND ANYTHING ELSE FOR THAT MATTER BECAUSE YOUR A PATHETIC EXCUSE OF A JOURNALIST AND AN EVER MORE PATHETIC EXCUSE AS A MAN.

YOU'VE GOT TO LEARN THAT YOUR COLUMN ISN'T HERE FOR YOU TO RIP ON ATHLETES, COACHES AND FANS JUST BECAUSE YOU COULDN'T HACK IT AS A FIRST STRING BECHWARMER. ONCE AND FOR ALL, STOP THE RANTS AND RAVING BECAUSE YOUR A PATHETIC EXCUSE OF A MAN.

The Twins are going to be in first place by the end of the month thanks to the CUBBIES!!!!!

I just wanted to publicly thank Jay Mariotti for a "brilliant" column about how Ozzie is an idiot and how the Cubs are great--"pointed North" to paraphrase Jay. He bashed the Sox all the way to the title in 2005 so keep up the good work Jay. By the way, we get it. Everything about the Sox and Jerry Reinsdorf is bad. Can you write about something else for a change?

This team is just PATHETIC!!!!

This organization and our manager is HORRIBLE.

As a White Sox Fan---I will BOYCOTT the rest of this season!!!

CUBBIES SWEEP AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It just SOOOOOOO EASY....

SUX never had never played any real talent being in the weakest division in baseball....................

I don't understand all the people saying get rid of Thome. He's in a slump no doubt, but numbers wise he should be right where he was at by the end of the season even though his average is down. If Konerko comes back strong and Thome comes out of his slump the Sox are in good shape.

right back at you cubs fans SWEEP!
