Here's a quick glance at what's happening around the American League Central.

More good news for the red-hot Tigers: Gary Sheffield, who begins a rehab assignment tonight, says he is just days away from returning to the club. Meanwhile, reliever Fernandon Rodney will return to the Tigers tonight, and fellow setup man Joel Zumaya is getting close.

Twins manager Ron Gardenhire was fuming over a speed-up called strike Sunday. Meanwhile, the Twins are taking it slow with rookie pitcher Nick Blackburn, who has a sore elbow.

Tucked in this Paul Hoynes notebook is an interesting nugget about Indians pitchers and grand slams.

Rodney had a melt down as 2 strikes on Bowker and he hit a 3 run HR and Giants scored 2 more to beat the Tiges 8-6...Tigers pitching still not too good. Indians a lot of injuries. Sox of course need better offense..believe they will bring Jerry Owens up and the speed will help.

After doing so much bashing of the Cubs opponents up to this point, our Chisox better back up the fans optimism with a few wins over teams like the Pirates.
