Owens suffers setback

A day after making his first appearance in a Cactus League game since March 4, center fielder Jerry Owens was scratched from the lineup for today’s game against the Colorado Rockies at Tucson Electric Park.

Owens, who strained his right groin during the team’s first intrasquad game last month and has been troubled by the injury since, said he felt fine after playing five innings Monday against the Texas Rangers, going 1-for-3. Manager Ozzie Guillen, however, cautioned the true test would come today.

With 2 1/2 weeks left before Opening Day, the Sox need their leadoff hitter to show he is healthy or they are looking at a repeat of the struggles they went through last season with the oft-injured Scott Podsednik.

Jason Bourgeois replaced Owens in center and in the leadoff spot for the game today.

The new lineup:
CF Jason Bourgeois
SS Orlando Cabrera
1B Nick Swisher
DH Paul Konerko
RF Jermaine Dye
C A.J. Pierzynski
3B Joe Crede
LF Brian Anderson
2B Juan Uribe
