"Minute to Win It"
One and a half stars
6 p.m. Sunday on WMAQ-Channel 5
I count myself as a fan of "Wipeout" - which is to say that I have no moral objections to people making themselves look like muttonheads on national TV. And yet I did not like "Minute to Win It."
The prize is $1 million dollars, and the means of winning it involves completing 10 tasks of a minute each. One challenge involved getting an Oreo from your forehead to your mouth without using any hands. You can also expect balloons, toilet paper and ping pong balls to be featured heavily on this show. (The engineers who construct the elaborate challenges on "Survivor" probably want to kill themselves right now.)
The host is Guy Fieri of the Food Network, who not only knows food and hair bleach, but can rattle off obvious puns relentlessly and without shame.
It's hard to say what I hated the most about the show. The slo-mo replays? The play-by-play announcing? The abuse of the fog machine? I suppose you could watch for spokesmodels Petra and Ling, who are lovely, but their only job seems to be spinning the contestants to make them dizzy.
NBC says that they have posted the challenges online, and that we Americans have been practicing for months, in the hopes of getting on the show. If this is true - if even one of us has been at home with pantyhose on our face, trying to funnel tennis balls downward in the manner of an elephant -- then we've already lost.
Yikes, I guess I get where you're coming from, but I gotta say the show looks really entertaining to me. I guess I'll find out for sure tonight at 7/6c....
I watched a preview episode of this show at Universal Studios last week. My friend and I felt it was a complete waste of our time. It was not exciting or funny at all. Maybe if they changed it around a bit with head-to-head competition, or make groups compete Family Feud style. (families, college friends, etc)
I don't dislike Guy, just the show. And isn't the set from some other show? And once a player misses a game, and then has to use another life to go on, it gets boring...that and all the replays. I really wanted to like this show, too.
I'm with Jessica, I like Guy and I think the show looks really entertaining. Looking forward to it.
It looks alot like a game show that's on youtube, multitaskers I think. If it's those same guys it mght be funny.
I completely disagree! I think this show looks like a lot of fun and the games look hilarious! I do think its interesting how guy fieri is the host for a show that doesnt involve foos, but ive seen the commercials and he seems like hes doing a great job. Very entertaining, and makes me want to watch the show. Cant wait to see it!
