"American Idol" gives back - and it taketh away, too. The top 24 became 20 when these vote-challenged wannabes went home:
Janell Wheeler, 24, of Tampa, Fla.
The folksy pageant girl illustrated exactly why she was leaving when she sang her encore, Heart's "What About Love," in a pastel twinset. Backup career suggestion: trophy wife.
Ashley Rodriguez, 21, of Chelsea, Mass.
She jinxed it by taking on Leona Lewis's "Happy." Consoling news, though: Rodriguez has already graduated from college with a degree in music business. Smart girl.
Joe Munoz, 20, of Huntington Park, Calif.
The puppylike Munoz turned out to be too much of an underdog. He suffered from lack of airtime - and wasn't memorable enough when he got some.
Tyler Grady, 20, of Nazareth, Penn.
I couldn't be more heartbroken that the goofy ghost of Jim Morrison will not be strutting into the next round. Shame on you, America.
Regarding the comments about Janell Wheeler: Meeeeeow! And you have to be kidding about Tyler Grady! A more unlikeable, conceited, one-trick pony jerk has never set foot on the AI stage. Good riddance.
