If you are a sincere ³Dancing With the Stars² viewer, you wrestled with some
serious questions last night. You, the call-in voter, had the power to award
a trashtastic mirror-ball trophy to Mya, Donny Osmond, or Kelly Osbourne.
But with such murky contest rules, how did you decide who deserved it most?
Did you vote for the best technical dancer? The most improved dancer? The
most popular dancer? The dancer most in need of a career boost?
The answer is between you and your unlimited calling plan. But here are some
categories that helped me decide:
Most pandering: Donny
Donny is an Osmond, and Osmonds just want to make you happy. The lifelong entertainer knows how to sell a routine, whether or not his feet are pointing in the right direction. And he knows that publicly necking with judge Bruno Tonioli is sometimes what it takes to get to the next round.
Most heartwarming: Kelly
She's grown up on TV, she's been to rehab and back, she's blossomed into an elegant young lady before her eyes -- and her dog died!
Most actual ability: Mya
Ever since she tap-danced on "Secret Talents of the Stars," it's been no secret that Mya has had more dance training than the other finalists. She also has more talent.
The last dance:
Mya led with a score of 87, but didn't dazzle with the all-important free-style dance. Will she be a victim of lackluster choreography? Donny stole the show with a perfect-30 vaudeville number that put him in second place for the night. And Kelly's choice of song - "I Will Survive" - proved particularly apt when she recovered from a fall with a burst of laughter.
Tune in Tuesday at 8 p.m. on WLS-Channel 7 to see someone's feelings hurt.
