The last 'Weeds' sex scene... What did you think?

| 10 Comments | No TrackBacks

I've heard from a few people that they didn't like the last "Weeds" episode because they felt that Esteban raped Nancy. Personally, I don't think that's what was intended. They established that he was into spanking, etc., and Nancy seemed intrigued by that to me. They also alluded to "rough" self-sex when Kevin Nealon got rope burns from his auto-erotic asphyxiation. (Well timed, considering David Carradine's demise.)

I just figured that Nancy is turned on by danger. How did you read it?

For the last time, it was NOT a rape.

They had to include a warning at the beginning of the episode that mentioned rape, because they KNEW people would take it that way.

Nancy has always been kinky. She was clearly enjoying the sex, she was smiling and mouthing "yes" and "fuck yes". That's not rape. She wasn't struggling or trying to get away, she was not upset.

They were having rough sex, that's all it was. He may have been "showing her who's boss" type of thing, but it certainly wasn't rape.

And as for the first comment "Think about who may view this? Children whose parents haven't blocked TV MA"

Well, you should be watching your children and aware of what they are watching. Movies and music and tv shouldn't have to be 100% family safe because some people have children that they don't keep an eye on.

It was absolutely a rape scene and was completely damaging and inappropriate for all watchers. Think about who may view this? Children whose parents haven't blocks MA TV or women who have been in abusive relationships and have accepted this behavior as the norm. This is disgusting and concerning and in NO WAY should be broadcast on television.

Yes, Nancy is clearly mentally deranged. It's been a slippery slope since day one of this show and season five is laying the ground for a full meltdown. No one lives the type of daily live this lady lives without breaking at some point. She's come close, but no cigar. Now, the edges are getting rougher and rougher and she has become that 10 year-old girl who deliberately jumped off the bridge only this time the bridge is much higher and she will take her entire family over with her. Sad.

There is no way that is rape and while Karyn brought up some good point about the emotional aspects of the situation, Nancy was clearly into the actions taking place no matter how forceful Esteban may have been. While he is laying her on the table, it is very evident that she is smiling and getting some sort of a turn on from the action and the whole time Esteban is giving her the full "from the behind treatment" she is smiling and mouthing things like "yes," and "fuck yes." So no, I do not think that physical rape was necessarily intended but emotionally, yes, Nancy was raped and that is why she was left standing there after Esteban left, because he had raped her emotionally. Oh, and to answer Nina's question, wtf?

I personally thought it was HOT!!! I am totally against rape, but that was not what esteban intended. Nancy didn't try to free herself from him, if she had and he didn't stop then you can call it rape all you want. Leaving her the way he did was not right that kind of pissed me off, but all in all the sex scene was GREAT!!!

I don't understand how anyone could see anything BUT rape in that last scene?

Granted the show has shown these 2 characters engaging in rough CONSENSUAL sex in the past, but in last Monday's episode Nancy was in a state of extreme emotional distress(suicidal, intoxicated, etc,..)She was psychologically and physically unable to give consent.

The Esteban character used sexual penetration to release feelings of anger, contempt and hostility and assert control and power. If that's not the textbook definition of rape, I don't know what is.

And then he just left her there.....how awful. If this show moves forward with the two of them still in "love" with one another (and all signs seem to point in that direction) it's a testament to just how mentally disturbed Nancy Botwin has become.

It's kind of sad that as a culture we still don't grasp the difference between sex (consensual) and rape (non-consensual, an assertion of power). Esteban was clearly exerting power, no matter whether Nancy was turned on by spanking in the past.

In the ratings at the begining of the show, it mentioned rape. It was a rape scene.

My friend at work said he thinks she was umm... getting the full "from the behind treatment" with a gun in the scene? I said I didn't get that from it and I would have to watch it again, but with the way the show tries to push the limits, I wouldn't be too surprised. Did you get that from the scene at all?
