Singing or dancing? TV viewers declared their preference last night with a click of the remote - and "American Idol" continues to dominate our evenings, with about 23.7 million viewers.

But "Dancing With the Stars" is getting a leg up. The final night of singing for "Idol" was actually the lowest-rated finale ever, even including its first season, when it aired in the summer. "DWTS" drew 20.1 million viewers, holding onto its audience from last year.

Interestingly, the new high school musical "Glee" had both singing [ital]and[unital] dancing, not to mention a cushy slot post-"American Idol." It was also promoted within an inch of its young life. "Glee" hooked a passable 9.9 million viewers - but FOX bragged that it was the No. 1 topic on Twitter all night.

Lets get real! There is no doubt Adam is talented, but perhaps too "over the top" for American Idol. He's more AMERICA'S GOT TALENT. The elaborate favored attention he was given was also overdone...scenery, lighting, costumes, and even the judges! I see him more of a Las Vegas entertainer or Broadway bound or concert bound with rock groups...not a record-selling artist. His great voice alone without all these additives might have made him the winner. If he does this, he will produce records that will be in demand. If he continues the screaming/screeching, OUCH!!!
(perhaps those pictures of him on the Internet ( tongue kissing/transvestite dressing) hurt his image for many people? I'm not talking about being gay...I'm talking about flashing a bit too much--again OVER THE TOP!!) Do you want your teen lured to these pictures and then saying "He's my American IDOL"?? If he is so amazing, why wasn't he discovered before with his living in California--so close to connections??
Kris is musically multi-talented with not only his voice but his guitar and piano abilities. He can go Pop or Country. Let's not take away the fact that Kris does have talent. He won without all the over-hype.
Time will tell while we all wonder and continue the controversy...after all, it only makes Simon Cowell richer!!!
There is a need to have a better judging system...and they don't need a fourth judge taking up all the time.

I'm not interested in Adam or Kris or American Idol. I find it all fake. None of them will get my money or interest. I do like Clay Aiken though as he is more than a singer and a well rounded entertainer. Jennifer Hudson is the same as are a few other idol type people. Overall I think Idol as run it course. I am sick of it. I am finding that I have interesting in those idols that quietly go about earning a living. Constantine, Hicks, Guarini, I have respect for them for making something of their entertainment careers without the Idol machine to pimp them out.

To Lu:

1 If you were not interested you would not have posted.
2 The other idols you mentioned have a career specifically because of the show.
3 Jennifer Hudson is nothing short of amazing!
4 Your post is nothing short of rediculous! Had to comment to your blind ignorant snubfest. Go to bed!

I'm a big fan of ADAM LAMBERT and i honestly think Adam really deserves to win... Just like what others think and see, he's got great voice... he's unique and original... i have nothing against Kris, i admire his efforts but even he thought that Adam really got it... but hey! we don't have to fight over it... If Adam accepted it, then, us fans should learn to accept it as well... let's just keep on supporting him, he doesn't seem to be disappointed, anyway... Good luck to Kris but specially to ADAM... no matter what happens I'll always be a fan... i don't really mind about those gay issues... i like him and many people does... Let's not criticize both Adam nor Kris... they have their own styles! Let's just support whoever we want to support and let's not criticize others... ADAM for us you are also A WINNER... and we'll always be here to support you... God Bless...

I thought American Idol was a singing contest where the best and most talented performer would win. I was wrong.

It's my turn! The American Idol finale was far more successful than the previous seasons. Kris/Adam was my prediction finale. I love both guys in different ways and styles. But both guys showed to the world what competition was all about: SPORTSMANSHIP! Yes, indeed! Whereas, some people here and some supporters of Adam & Kris were acting like fool & immature people, fighting and whining each other regarding the result last night won't do good at all. Kris was very humble last night after wining the title. He stated that Adam deserved to be the American Idol but Adam responded that Kris won because of his talents and his critique. This show that these boys are truly intelligent and deserve to be American Idols and heroes for our kids despite the name calling and swearing by most people, the media and the four judges...America knows better that why they chose Adam/Kris finale. I'm so happy for both of them. Kris and Adam, you can't compare them because each individual has their own styles and talents. I VOTED for Kris because I felt he is more appealing to my hear and taste (not because of his good looks)but I love Adam too in different way. He is more like Madonna, Elvis Presley or Michael Jackson who can perform in a live concert in short: SHOWMANSHIP! That's why American Idol this year offered different taste, style and talents. No wonder why Adam & Kris supporters are crazy for them. Please stop bickering! Show your moral support instead for the new STARS: KRIS AND ADAM...YOU MAKE ME PROUD OF YOU AND THE AMERICAN PEOPLE KNOWS BEST WHO IS THE REAL AMERICAN IDOL! I can't wait to see your albums soon...God bless you and more power to American Idol!

You can bet there is going to be huge backlash with drop off in AI viewing next season becasue of AI seriously flawed voting system that have upset many AI fans. Adam did not lose this contest it was stolen from him by an orchestrated voting agenda in Arkansas that allowed one person to vote as many as 450,000 times. Arkansas voters also used computers to bypass time zone limitations with software such as GISMO and Dialaidol. The number of votes generated from Arkansas exceeded 38 million with confirmed reports from AT&T, when the population is Arkansas is a mere 2.3 million. There are Christian fanatic loyalists that filled the 20,000 stadium during Kris's home coming. The votes mentioned does not include the votes that entered through other time zone of about 2 million more. How else would you explain a 23.8 million AI viewer audience who casted 100 million votes of which the majority viewers don't even bother to vote.

More accurate measure of real world marketability of the contestant is putting your wallet over your texting and calling fingers and computer generated votes like iTunes download where majority of the AI revenue generated and songs downloaded were Adam's followed in distant second by Kris's. Let's see how many Americans are actually willing to fork over hard earned money to purchase a CD, download songs, or go to concerts for Kris over Adam. This sad but true situation is evidenced by past AI winners who did didley squat such as Taylor Hicks(the promoter had to give away tickets to his musical Grease), Fantasia Marino, and Rubin Studdard.

Second, “likeable” Kris may well become the most hated man in America when it sinks in that his fans robbed Adam of his win by cheating. As far as being musically relevant, go back and watch the show from last night. Notice how Adam out sang boring twisted face Kris? Then watch how Adam brought the house down with Kiss. By the way, both Queen and Kiss want Adam as a front man.

AI should take serious clues from Dancing with the Stars and weigh in judges score than rely on this flawed voting system that is NOT A TALENT/SINGING CONTEST, THIS IS A REGIONAL VOTING AND TECHNOLOGY CONTEST. Kris admitted "Adam deserved this title" and he knew about the voting and technology training in Arkansas. He did not want to win that way.

Myself included, I have vowed to not watch AI county hick and pop show and watch enjoyable Dancing with the Stars programming with very fair voting system that don;t leave a very bad taste in your mouth.

I actually think it's good Adam lost last night. At least he doesn't have to record that stupid Boundary song and is much more free to do whatever he wants.
I see him an International Star, while Chris after his first recording will probably sing mostly at Country Fairs.
However at the ripe of age of 70 I am sufferering Adam withdrawal.
Gone are the Tuesday evenings listening to a very talented singer,
Adam Lambert.

American Idol is past it's prime. I quit watching years ago. Now I watch Dancing With The Stars, even though I prefer singing over dancing. DWTS gives respect to the contestants. The show is not perfect but it is a lot of fun. I got so tired of Ryan Seacrest telling me America got it wrong, the poor treatment of contestants, and the know it all judges. Well, I got it right when I stopped watching American Idol.

I am a Kris fan. I like his kind of singing. Adam screamed alot and he is totally a rock singer and that is fine if that is what you like. I am glad Kris won, first, because I think he is the better of the two, but, secondly, because I got sick of the judges telling everyone how wonderful Adam was and pushing him along through the entire weeks of the show. They should be judging, telling the singers how they can improve (which they did) but they always came back by the end of each night saying how great Adam was. They wanted Adam and America didn't.

These people claiming Kris has no talent truly amaze me. The guy plays guitar, piano, and sings - on pitch and on key. Kris and Adam have different styles but both are talented. Frankly I was tired of Adam who seemed to do the over the top vocal over and over each week, sometimes a simple well done song is best. Additionally, Adam was trained for theatrics and it became mundane and predicable. America got this one completely right! Way to go Kris!!!!
This has nothing to do with gay or straight either, so just stop with the homophobic crap! Be a gracious loser like "your idol" and move on!

By the way... I live 2 miles from where Adam grew up in San Diego (PQ).

It was so disgusting to a great music competition show turned into a burlesque performance. Highly disgusted!!!!

I give up on american idol. Let the kids vote for their cuddlies and carry the show. No more idol.

American Idol has to change their voting system
like many other shows limit their vote to only a few.
this way kids that have the the time and patience will
not control the results.

I absolutely think ADAM LAMBERT deserve it better than kris Allen. What happened america? Adam is obviously a better singer than Kris! Adam's vocal is excellent & magical, he is so natural on stage, he is a true performer! A greaT entertainer and singer.

What a big disappointment!!!!!!

I was enjoying "Idol" last night with all its surprise guests UNTIL the winner was announced. I went to bed in a truly sour mood vowing to never watch it again. It really disturbs me and is somewhat cruel when TRUE EVIDENT TALENT is down right disregarded. What a horrible message we are sending to our children and even adults that are trying to pursue their dreams.

There was absolutely no comparison between Adam and Kris. Sorry. It has everything to do with a great voice, charisma, originality, dedication, focus/hard work and face it folks..you gotta have STAR DUST. Adam Lambert has this and sooo much more. I can't imagine how he felt and his handling it graciously only added to his impeccable charm and warm heart but sure as heck doesn't make that loss right. He was honest about who he is, but who he is and what he believes in...really is none of our business, its what he brings to the table as an artist that in this competition is all that should matter.
Besides, the only way most men could hit high notes like that is when they get hit in their "jewels". And even then, its off key.

Adam was and is the best for the "Idol" job. To deny Adam of his great grand talent, was to deny our great grand country. To not reward him this much deserved honor, is a horrible reflection and sad realization that the American people still cannot break the chains of their bigotry.

I'm with you Allyson! Adam was just not my 'cup of tea' and I do believe that I resented the fact that the show had already pretty much decided that Adam was going to win. He was too 'over the top' for me. I am looking forward to seeing more from Danny Gokey:-)

The show is over and now will be the test for both Kris and Adam. It's what happens after the show that counts. (America's votes certainly don't. ;))

I think that many people may have cast votes to Kris because they were tired of the obvious pimping of Adam. Not saying he doesn't have talent, but not everyone wants to be directed which way to vote because that is all you hear about or see. I blame the judges and producers of the show for that.

I don't think it has anything to do with gay at all. There are many that just didn't like being told that Adam was the best.

Isn't it about letting America decide?

Yes, of course. Anybody who did not vote for Adam is a haters.

It does not matter what we want or like or even what our rights are: first we must get approval from the gay Taliban as to what our opinion might be. We must all vote and cheer any gay endeavor whatsoever to prove we are not haters.

Funny how the ones always labeling others as haters and homophobes and bigots are the same ones who preach tolerance...their version exclusively of course.

It didn't matter why people didn't vote for Megyn or Alison or Gokey anyone else not in the final. It only matters if you didn't vote for the suspected gay guy.

I'm the first to admit that I'm a heterosexual bigot! But choosing Kris as THE American Idol?! Come on, America!! This is just plain wrong. The talentless pretty boy should've been out of the competition 4-5 weeks ago, let alone making it to the finals.

I actually don't care the least bit whether Adam is gay or not. He's got a great voice, he is original, talented, and a true performer. I'll go to his concert any time, no matter if he's singing with Kiss or Elton John. Clay Aiken, on the other hand, I don't really care about.

Anti-gay bigotry is a manifestation of haterosexuality. Haterosexuality is the foundation of all institutional forms of discrimination.

Kris would have never won if his competition was haterosexual, we all know it. Kris forgot the lyrics to "No Boundaries" and was off key, two things that spelled doom to past contestants. This will be like the Ruben Studdard/ Clay Aiken showdown in which many people voted AGAINST Clay because they thought he was gay (he later acknowledge he is) and had no plans on buying anything Ruben made.

Why does America always need “wars”? Now it’s between the TV channels for show ratings. Why “American Idol” verses “Dancing With The Stars”? We, the customers, want both shows, but scheduled preferably during the weekend, on different days and with less commercials. Is it too difficult to arrange this for us?

Another question is do these shows meet our expectations? Are the rules of the competitions explained: the selection and the judgment criteria? The judges have to educate the public, give us more arguments and considerations, better to control their emotions and not mislead the audience with very close evaluations.

What happened yesterday with “Dancing With The Stars” just confirms my opinion that the judges are not playing their roles satisfactorily. Yes, all 3 finalists were very strong. But what the judges failed to explain to us was that ballroom dancing is an art, not a sport, and has strict international rules. This way, not only women’s preference to an elegant man could reveal the instant winner. And it was Gilles Marini, an artist by heart, by appearance and by performance!

If the same happens tonight to Adam Lambert, this will mean that the American audience does not know the criteria of the “American Idol” competition and does not understand the meaning of the word “idol.”

I personally will turn off all the American TV channels and will watch Chinese TV in Chinese. Not to understand, but at least to watch something different.
