Can "Survivor" survive Coach?

| | Comments (43) | TrackBacks (0)

If you are watching "Survivor," you know the many charms of the Steven Seagall-haired, pygmie-fighting Coach. Just a few of my favorite things from last night's episode.

Warning: spoilers ahead!

Soccer coach "Coach" seems to suffer from whatever it is that Blagojevich has. He repeatedly, repeatedly refers to himself as "the dragonslayer," and last night extended the metaphor to compare pouty model Sierra to dragon droppings.

survivor_coach_gallery_primary.jpg

He told stories around the fire of pulling strings to get a military helicopter drop in the Amazon, and then being pulled out of his kayak by a tribe of short Peruvians, who tied him to a stake and beat him until he lost consciousness several times. They wanted to "eat his ass," he said. He was a little vague as to how he escaped.

He told Jeff that he'd been in, oh, maybe eight life-or-death situations, maybe more: He was in a hurricane, had been attacked by a shark, had danced with a crocodile, etc.

Some of Coach's favorite words: "vikings," "warriors," "ancient samurai." He has feathers in his hair. National Geographic wanted to document his adventures, but Coach said no.

As Stephen was selected to camp out at Exile Island, Coach advised, "Be the wizard, Stephen. Be the wizard."

Later, Stephen cast a vote for Coach, saying, "This is my wizard lightening, shooting you back home."

Tribal Council was phenomenal, with Coach looking smug as usual, Tyson looking pretty in his immunity necklace, Sierra looking disgusted, and Brendan looking as though he might cry. Ultimately, Brendan was the one to go. But I'd organize a "vote for the worst" type of movement if it would keep Coach going for a few more episodes. Does anyone love him as much as I do?

One of my favorite lines from this season was when Taj said something like, any 35-year-old man who thinks he's a dragonslayer needs to be in a mental institution. I laughed out loud when the friends and family came (and Coach's closest person is . . . assistant coach? seriously? maybe his family has disowned his nutty self?) and Coach tells his pal that "they're calling me the dragonslayer!" and I'm saying, no-one is calling you the dragonslayer except YOU.

And just to add, Tyson is not attractive at all. Ugh. What a delusional pair.

Who is Coach? I thought in the beginning he was a little odd with his stories. However i thought its all real innocent because he is on an island who cares if hes making them up, get in the spirit right ? Its like making up camp stories right ? However with all the dragonslayer talk and him praying to the gods and Godesses on the last show i thought he for sure had to be a Pagan ut now I find out hes been talking about the christian God all along and works for a Christian college what the heck? What is he Christian or Pagan?

what a tool!

I absolutely hate Coach - he is the most arrogant egotistical maniac that has ever been on survicor -and I have watched them all - I CANNOT WAIT until he gets voted off - does he really believe those stories he tells them??? and if he does not lie then why did he not tell the college he was the womens soccer coach for were he weaqs going and why? CAUSE HE GOT FIRED!!!! pigmys beating him unconscious really??? I just love how Jeff jabs him at every tribal counsel CAUSE HE KNOWS COACH IS FULL OF S**T

http://www.fansofrealitytv.com/forums/survivor-tocantins/79463-benjamin-coach-wade-survivor-tocantins.html idk if this is true but it would make everything true he is truly a phyco tho.. Can any body prove this either based on fact and stephens saying was the best quote ever on survivor... It was for Sierra though

Coach is a trip, a person suffering from chronic mental disorder with abnormal behavior. Also he is very EGOCENTRIC, From the show he is a LYING PERVERT, Who hides behind Gods word when he is cought in a LIE.. Talking about Stephan getting stoned for telling the TRUTH, this story comes from the Old testament in the Bible. Coach is like Satan, He will tell you 1000 truths to get you to believe one lie.

I could not hangout with that diabolical Dung of a man for more than an hour, If I was on the show I would have to put some Homo sapiens manure in his food or something, have him leave on a chopper with an IV in his arm..LOL The show is called SURVIVER People, Think outside the box..

Who ever he works for or strokes his ego needs to have their head checked by a real shrink, No Hollywood Dr Phil Crap..

To Amy: "Does Tyson remind anyone else of a skinny skinny Matthew McConnahey?"

No, he reminds me more of the Snow Miser from "Year Without A Santa Claus".

To: The of and on
You said "They "laugh hysterically" at amazing stories and at people who nearly lost their lives. They are so quick to assume someone is lying simply on the grounds that the story is too incredible. Why not assume Coach is telling the truth? You should read up on this guy. I don't think you can spend months in the Pacific Ocean and on the Amazon and NOT encounter sharks, crocodiles, and natives."

Yes we laugh at STUPID people that state they almost died, because he is lying. I dont think the story is untrue because it is so unbelievable I KNOW the story is untrue because of HIS WORDS and nothing else. If you had anything remotely close to a brain you would realize everything he has said is false. No YOU should read up on him or that is attempt to read up on him. I have spent several hours looking all over the internet at sites I trust like Guiness Book of Records, Kayaking sites and others looking for anything about his RECORD BREAKING trip. I have found many names other than his on theses sites and have only found stories of the trip he talks about on sites that quote HIM saying he made the record. If it were true it would be on independant sites that have nothing to gain from telling the truth as he has much to lose from doing the same because he is a LIAR!! The only record of his "adventures" comes from his mouth NO ONE ELSE, everyone just quotes him talking about the "Greatest Adventures Ever Undertaken". So why not assume he is telling the truth? Because assuming makes an a$$ out of you but not me because I dont assume anything idiot. I dont believe that you can spend time on the Pacific Ocean or Amazon without encountering sharks and crocodiles and even piranhas but when you have violent encounters with such animals, if you do survive you have scars somewhere on your body yet Coach doesnt appear to have any visible scars. He hasnt stated he had plastic surgery to reduce the size of the scars to make them less visible which he could have done but even then you still have physical indicators of the trauma. So yes I am going to laugh my a$$ off every time his sociopathic lying a$$ opens his stupid mouth and tries to fill our heads with drivel that is obviously a lie, and if you do continue to believe him after all this then I have some ocean front property here in AZ just for you, DUMB A$$.

the way coach talks he thinks hes better then chuck noris pfft. coach you have got to be kidding me you should get out of your fantisy world and get back into reality. dragon slayers anr't all powerful any more bankers and lawyers are scarry.

You would expect that if someone had as much life experience as Coach claims to have that they would have gained some humility in the process.

Okay, I'm 14, and even I can see how much of a liar this guy is. I've watched this show since Africa, and I have NEVER hated a player as much as I hate Coach, not even Jonny Fair-Play (and I hated him a lot too).

The "dragon slayer"? Really? This man is absolutely dilusional. You know, this is probably the most I've ever screamed at the television during the show, and quite frankly, I think my parents are getting annoyed/going very deaf.

While I do admit that it's rather amusing to watch him and his little cronies, it's getting old. Vote the idiot off already and let us move on with the show. Make sure someone who deserves it actually wins the million.

COACH IS SUCH A LIAR, PLEASE SEND HIS LYING BUTT HOME SOON.

Paige, you seriously like this kook? If this is the idea of an ego, I believe that no one every on this series can compare to his self-indulgent personality, that if could have a mirror to look at himself, he would wither away and die.

Oh My Gosh - All I can think of when Coach starts to talk is that Kristen Wigg character on SNL. All through the last episode I started fiddling with my hair and saying things like - "I was kidnapped by Peruvian Pigmy's too. Only my pigmy's were from space, and my pigmy's actually did kill me - I am reincarnated.....
and at tribal "I have scars too, only mine are inside...Inside my tongue, like eel razors. I used to be an eel. In my Heaven, there are eight levels. I actually live on the 8th level. It's secret, so you can't find it on google......"
I was so hoping they would send him to exile so he would come back with stories of mating with the beautiful mermaid and discovering a new super power.....

To anyone who is thinking the remaining contestants are "backing" coach. Don't make any judgements about their position by what you are seeing in the episode. They have plenty of reasons to temper their feelings and producers have even more reasons to be vague at this point with the edit. Consider the following: you are only being treated to the final edit of actual events, which is designed to create a mood and share only the information which producers wish for viewers to get at this point. A creative edit is a necessity. Furthermore, even with the scarce bits we were treated to, you can see in their faces, they were likely forced to stay awake listening to his drivel, he may have been prompted that they would "enjoy" the sharing (brilliant direction), and it does them no good to "out" him now, when he's the best bet any of them have at beating in the finals. I can only hope we get the full treatment in the Aftershow. Cheers everyone...May coach be a slave to Karma as he seems to be laying a path in that direction with every step he takes in life.

1. Stephen didn't vote for coach... he voted for Brendan. Every episode shows who votes for who with the credits. Go back and watch it

2. Check ur facts folks, Coach does infact own the record for the longest Kayak expedition. U may not be able to find the martial arts on google but the record is.

3. Without Coach this show would tank in the ratings, he is one of two sources of entertainment... the other of course his side kick Tyson

4. (I know coach personally) though the scars aren't visible in the pic he has them

5. The latest most ubsurd story told by coach hasn't been modified since he told me it the 1st time 3 years ago. Sad to think that everyone believes its made up because its exciting, I've seen the pictures after he returned.

I alternate between laughing my head off at coach, and yelling at the tv screen because he's such an a hole!

I don't think most of the players bought his campfire story - they were trying to keep themselves from snickering so as to not incur the wrath of the DRAGONSLAYER!!!

"I finally wore through the ropes and ducked out the back." (presumably marked "exit")

Is Coach living in a dream world, a liar or in deep cover...Check it out...

http://pitchbendpost.blogspot.com

I just checked his university newspaper website and the headline is the womens team hiring a new coach. Ha ha

yeah I'm a complete and total fool for him. Gods he is fine.

The Tyson/Debbie alliance is in control. Coach has no true alliance and will soon be voted out. I think he's one of the best characters ever on Survivor. Look up the term pseudologia fantastica. It sums up Coach. He believes his fantasies are real.

Amazing, isn't it? Coach couldn't speak the language of the aboriginal people and, presumbably, those isolated people aren't fluent in English. Yet, Coach knew that they were discussing ways to cook his @$$ for dinner. Also, these same mysterious aborigines viciously beat Coach, only to leave him alone and so loosely bound that he could escape with his kayak conveniently nearby. And, how is it that someone could have been savagely beaten -- several times losing consciousness -- yet be so unharmed that he could paddle away mightily to freedom?

Yes, there are some incredble-yet-true stories out there. Coach's tales of abduction and escape aren't among them.

After last night’s survivor, I can’t help but to be disturbed by Coach’s story. I’m not disturbed because the story was horrifying, but rather I was disturbed because it was so full of holes. I am relieved to see that no one is buying it. However, I can’t help myself, I need to point these holes to someone who will listen (or in this case read).

1) He pulled strings to get a military helicopter to drop him off in a foreign country. As far as I know, the only way a civilian is going to a military transport to a foreign country is through the President, or at the very least someone in the highest level of government. Of course he may know someone up that high, so in theory it could be true, but only in theory.

2) So he was kidnapped, beaten to the point he passed out (several times!!!) and still had a frame of mind to escape his capturers, find his way back to his kayak, and paddle until his hands bled? Really??? Wouldn’t such a severe beating break bones or cause a concussion? Did he memorize the path to where ever it was that the natives took him to back to his kayak? Was he just lucky? Would anyone not familiar with such situations be able to keep their cool and make such a calculated escape, all the while sustaining serious injuries? I just want to know.

3) They wanted to eat his… uh… “backdoor?” How does he know this? I assume that the natives that kidnapped him did not speak English, and probably do not speak a language that is taught at most (if any) universities. Did the natives just pantomime that they were thinking about eating his… er… backdoor, or did he, with his super-human abilities learn their language within the hours he was held captive amongst the beatings. Again, theoretically he could have learned this language because according to him, people are willing to teach him anything which leads to my last point, which has nothing to do with the story, but is irritating nonetheless.

4) The monks in Tibet taught him some super-secret martial arts that completely refocuses his energy. All I saw him do was yoga poses that one could learn from any gym or yoga studio in the country. Further, why would monks teach a soccer coach from a Christian university a super-secret martial art?

So yeah, I think he full dragon poo, but were I a contestant on that show, I would want to take Coach with me to the finals, because no one will ever vote for him. So I don’t imagine he’ll be going anywhere anytime soon. This will, more than likely, cause me to leave more posts, because I simply can’t take his brand of bullcrap.

While I do like interesting characters on reality TV shows, one thing I cannot stand is a pathological liar. Another thing I cannot stand are people who blindly follow said liar. What are these people thinking? How can they restrain themselves from standing up and shouting, "If you Google something and it doesn't show up, IT DOESN'T EXIST!!! YOU LYING MORON!!! And, BTW, if one of my children were on a team that this guy coached, I would have them pulled from the team as soon as I saw him on this show.

I'm so disgusted I don't even know who to pull for anymore. Not Coach, Tyson, Taj, Stephen, or Debbie. I hate 'em all right now. I didn't even like Brendan that much, I'm just so disgusted with everyone else for backing Coach.

I laugh hysterically at people who believe this guy's nonsense. Yes he's interesting to have on the show, but that doesn't make him less annoying. And no, since my old neighbor actually was a Holocaust survivor, I don't find that type of thing amusing. Let's just ignore the unnecessary comments about each other's 'accomplishments in life', (which have nothing to do with anything); we're here to have fun and talk about a character (yes a character) on a show that is semi-reality.

Let's see...A soccer coach from Missouri can "pull strings" and arrange a military helo drop in a foreign country? I've seen the picture of him with no shirt. Where are all the scars from shark attacks and piranha bites and savage beatings from indigenous cannibals and bengal tigars and grizzly bears? A martial art not found on Google? And this one's the best: world record for the longest solo kayak expedition. This is NOT TRUE. Look it up. Paddling Magazine lists the greatest sea kayak expe ditions of all time, and this guy ain't mentioned. Yes, there is a book about this supposed accomplishment of Coach's, but it is a NOVEL. It says right on the cover, "a novel, based on the diaries of Benjamin Wade (Coach's real name)." It should say "based on the delusions."

If I hear Coach say "the head of the dragon" one more time, I'm going to behead myself with a broadsword.

I cannot believe the official Survivor web page actually lists in Coach's bio that one of his accomplishments is the world's longest solo kayak expedition. This was written up as a *NOVEL* by Tom Gauthier "based on the diaries of Benjamin Wade." (Coach's real name).

A NOVEL. Based on diaries.

A martial art you can't find on Google?

A soccer coach from Missouri "pulls strings" to get a military helo drop in a foreign country?

This guy is completely delusional, a pathological liar, more than a little scary, and needs psychiatric medications.

Those two men are so creepy. I wonder what the people who were with him in camp had any idea they were both so freaked? I would think they'd be worrying now that they were trapped with two psychos?
Did the Survivor producers do a psych eval on Coach? Did they know he was mentally ill and send him anyway? That story about being captured in the Amazon! Coach needs to be on the show "The World's Biggest Liar."

Coach and Tyson are both a$$es!!!!!!

Oh my gosh, COACH is the most annoying man EVER on Survivor. My husband sits and laughs at all of his antics, but I just want him to get voted off so his arrogant, delusional antics aren't messing with my favorite show anymore!! I have to admit though...it does make me giggle that so many of his fantabulous feats are being proved false. Instead of humbling himself and admitting that he's ridiculous, I'm sure he'll chalk it up to the necessary trials of a true samurai, dragon slaying, wizardly, Man of the Mountain. Gag.

I simply cannot stand Coach and I'm disappointed in Taj et al not honoring her word to Brendan. If I were one of the parents of his school teams players, I would be asking the school to get rid of him. Sickening and disgusting man.

I LOVE Coach and Tyson!!! Without them, do you realize how boring this season of Survivor would be? Apparently vmars322 believes the jury won't vote for Coach. Have you noticed how most cast members back his voting strategy nearly every week? Have you noticed that anyone who crosses him is voted off? That is respect for a true leader. That is why, BobbyBlueChip, they keep backing the Tyson/Coach alliance. Everyone wants to back a winner.

Meanwhile, drcdiva and Amy, likely having never accomplished anything in life, are unaware that people are actually doing amazing things in the world every day. They "laugh hysterically" at amazing stories and at people who nearly lost their lives. They are so quick to assume someone is lying simply on the grounds that the story is too incredible. Why not assume Coach is telling the truth? You should read up on this guy. I don't think you can spend months in the Pacific Ocean and on the Amazon and NOT encounter sharks, crocodiles, and natives.

Coach is a respected leader, a hero, a legend. A dragon slayer!

It's too bad that these people with mundane lives spend countless hours blogging, spewing their hatred of Coach, jealous that they haven't done anything exciting with their own lives.

P.S. I wonder if Amy would laugh hysterically at Holocaust survivors. They tell tales of near-death experiences that are so stunning they can't be believed. Right?

I absolutely cant stand coach. I am so sick of his dragon-slayer b.s. and claiming that people are poison. He's just as two-faced as everyone else. He plotted and schemed same as Brendan. Yet he continues to claim that he plays the game with "honesty" and honor. I think he may end up being Survivor's biggest villain/ most obnoxious character (yes, he is to the point of being a character rather than person) and beat Jerri and even Johnny Fairplay.

Definitely a fan of Coach and his antics. Listen, if it wasn't for him and Tyson, this would be a pretty lame show. Brendan (especially) and the rest are BORING...dry as cardboard. Coach and Tyson make it pretty entertaining!!

Okay, my wife and I are argueing. Who cast the two votes for Coach. One was definitly cast by Brendon, but who was the other? I say it was JT, my wife says Sierra and now someone is saying Stephen. ??????

(Paige here: It was Sierra and Brendan. Of course your wife is right! JT voted for Sierra. Stephen voted for Brendan.)

It's amazing at how ineffective he is at all athletic events, but he doesn't seem to to notice. I know the producers need to keep the suspense up for the vote, but I would love to know the reasoning behind going with the Tyson/Coach alliance vs. the other one.

Hate 'im, hate 'im, hate 'im

(Paige here. You always have my approval.)

Jeez he's so delusional it's just funny. I laughed hysterically during the tribal council scene- the look on Jeff Probst's face! How could they all keep a straight face when Coach listed his 'life or death situations?' Does Tyson remind anyone else of a skinny skinny Matthew McConnahey?

I don't think that Stephen voted for Coach...he only got two votes and they came from Brendan and Sierra. I thought anyways. It looked like Stephan and JT went with Coach's plan to boot Brendan.

Is it possible they are only keeping Coach around bc no one on the jury would vote for him in the end?

I can live with Coach for a while (despite having an overload of dragon symbols next week). But I can't stand Tyson. For some weird reason, ppl think he's funny. He's not. Can a brazillian tribe kidnap him?

(From Paige: I like Tyson! He reminds me of Christopher Eccleston, whom I fell in love with watching the movie "Shallow Grave." Maybe if you watch the movie, you'll like Tyson?)

That man makes me nauseous. If he was in all those scrapes, why is his body so perfect? No scars - nothing. Ugh.

(From Paige: DRC, hi! Nice to have you back.)
