Is Jennie Garth moving back to '90210'?

When you start talking about "The Hills," you get a different reaction depending on how old your audience is. Younger folk think you're talking about the MTV scripted/unscripted drama of that title. Older TV fans (ahem) think you mean Donna Martin and Brandon Walsh. That is, "Beverly hills, 90210."

And with earlier announcements that the CW is plotting a new "90210" spinoff series, now comes word that one of the original show's residents might be returning to the zip code.

Jennie Garth has departed from CBS’ comedy pilot ‘‘My Best Friend’s Girl,’’ raising speculation about a possible stint on the CW’s ‘‘Beverly Hills, 90210’’ spinoff.

Kristin Booth has been tapped to replace Garth as the female lead in ‘‘Girl,’’ while Jerry O’Connell has signed on to star opposite Niecy Nash in the Fox comedy pilot ‘‘The Inn.’’

‘‘Girl’’ revolves around two best friends whose relationship becomes complicated when one (Tim Peper) starts dating the ex-wife of the other (Josh Cooke). Garth was to play the ex-wife. She departed the pilot after the table read Monday in what was described as a mutual decision between her and the producers. Garth has been coping with the death of her father, who passed away after she was cast in ‘‘Girl.’’

Meanwhile, it had been reported that Rob Thomas, who penned the script for CW’s upcoming ‘‘90210’’ spinoff, has been looking to potentially recruit ‘‘90210’’ alumna Garth to reprise her role as Kelly Taylor from the original series in the spinoff, possibly returning to her alma mater as a fashion design teacher.

Who should be the next original "90210" cast member to come back?
