Art deco digs in Miami

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

The prestigious Art Basel show in Miami Beach is coming right up, Dec. 6-9.

It's the American sister event of Switzerland's Art Basel and combines an international selection of top galleries with a cool program of special exhibitions, parties and crossover events including music, film, architecture and design. Exhibition sites are spread throughout the city's hip Art Deco District, within walking distance of the beach and many hotels.

One of these hotels, the Whitelaw, is offering a special package for show-goers.

It didn't take long for the marketing geniuses to capitalize on the popularity of the 2004 hit film "Sideways."

Tourism folks put together an excellent map leading you to more than a dozen locations featured in the movie, including Gaviota State Beach, Ocean Lanes bowling alley, the Hitching Post II Restaurant and, of course, plenty of wineries.

Here's how to get a free copy of the helpful guide:

Sea-band wristbands. Dramamine. The latest issue of Budget Travel even has a tip from a reader swearing by the stomach-soothing powers of a green apple.

Have you found some great way to avoid getting seasick on cruises?

Everyone has favorites: books, bands, restaurants -- and vacations. What's yours? And more importantly, what made it so special?

Send me a photo and a brief description (100 words or less) about your best vacation ever. Our panel of esteemed judges (me) will pick a winner.

The prize?
