Wicks Apple house in Dowagiac, MI is a great place for apple related activities. The century old cider press (which you can watch operate) is a big attraction for all ages. They also have an old fashion haunted house open in fall, fruit & vegetable market in season, restaurant, bakery and four-acre corn maze open August thru October.

As long as you're in the neighborhood, be sure to check out Artoberfest (Saturday, 9/29/07) in the Arts District (nearby Benton Harbor, MI). Great works of art, Oktoberfest style tent (featuring locally brewed beer from The Livery and local wines from Tabor Hill) and nationally acclaimed music (Jenna Mammina). Artoberfest is a great small festival - not to be missed!
