Check out this fascinating New York Times story about a suburb in Germany that gets along without cars. Kids can play in the streets without worrying about getting run over. A similar experiment is being considered in California. It's hard to imagine car-crazy America trying something like this. But German, after all, is the home of the VW and the autobahn -- they're car-crazy too.

Find cheaper parking in the Loop

There’s got to be cheaper parking around here, somewhere. Let the Sun-Times help you find it. This Sun-Times database lets you search for parking, locate it on a map and compare prices for garages and parking lots downtown. A better price may be closer than you think.

Out in Arizona, he can barely go to his front walk without risking being run over by a half-blind geezer in a land yacht. Sign me up!
