Kirk, Manchin bill to crack down on prescription drug abuse.

WASHINGTON--Sen. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) and his close Senate friend, Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) are chief Senate sponsors of a bill to crack down on prescription drug abuse. The House version is sponsored by Rep. Vern Buchanan (R-F.) and Rep. Edward Markey (D-Ma.) who is running for the Senate.

The "Safe Prescribing Act of 2013" will reclassify a variety of painkillers, such as Vicodin and Lortab to make them "controlled substances," subject to tougher restrictions.
