The Center for American Progress Action Fund invites you to join us for a conversation with Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Representative Mike Thompson (D-CA) and Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) on the legislation and policies needed to reduce and prevent gun violence. Mayor Emanuel, who was senior adviser to President Clinton during the successful debate and passage of the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban, will speak to the political lessons learned during the passage of that bill. Representative Thompson, who was named chair of the House Gun Violence Prevention Task force by House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), will address steps that need to be taken to reduce and prevent gun violence--and what it will take to get comprehensive legislation passed. Senator Schumer, a senior member of the Senate Judiciary Committee and House author of the Brady law and the Assault Weapons Ban, will discuss how the dialogue in Washington, D.C. needs to shift in order to enact legislation to reduce gun violence. The conversation will be moderated by Neera Tanden, President & CEO of the Center for American Progress and Counselor to the Center for American Progress Action Fund.
