London Mayor Boris Johnson via the Telegraph: "There's guy called Mitt Romney who wants to know (whether) we are ready," Mr Johnson cried, prompting jeers from some of the 60,000-strong crowd. "Are we ready? Yes we are!"

The Democratic National Committee quickly produced this video highlighting U.S. television and British press coverage of Mitt Romney's stumbles.

WASHINGTON--London was supposed to be the easy stop on Mitt Romney's first foreign trip as the GOP presidential candidate created self-inflicted wounds from his own comments about the Olympics and the British spy agency--letting Democrats back in the U.S. gleefully highlight every gaffe.

In the Sun, the headline was "Mitt the Twit: Wannabe President in Games Insult."

The Democratic National Committee on Thursday was sending out a stream of e-mails recounting every British rebuke to Romney, who wanted to use the trip to enhance his stature.

The Mitt gaffes

In a NBC interview, Romney told Brian Williams London Olympic preparations may fall short, "disconcerting" and it is "hard to know just how well it will turn out."

An irate British Prime Minister David Cameron slapped down Romney, who jumped in to save the Salt Lake City Winter Olympic games: "Of course it's easier if you hold an Olympics Games in the middle of no where."

London Mayor Boris Johnson, to a crowd of about 60,000 cried out, "There's guy called Mitt Romney who wants to know whether we are ready," "Are we ready? Are we ready, Yes we are!"

At another point, Romney commented in public about a meeting he had--it was not on his schedule--with the British secret intelligence agency, MI-6.

Romney attends the opening Olympic ceremonies on Friday. He visits Israel on Sunday, followed by Poland.
