Romney gaining in Iowa; Gingrich fading: New CNN poll

WASHINGTON-- GOP White House hopeful Mitt Romney is gaining in Iowa--a state at one time seen out of his reach--according to a new CNN/TIME poll released Wednesday afternoon. Rival Newt Gingrich's surge is over, according to the poll, with his support dropping about in half. To watch: A Rick Santorum Iowa surge.

Iowa has the first vote in the nation on Jan. 3 followed by the New Hampshire primary on Jan. 10. The CNN poll puts Romney well ahead of any rival.
