Michelle Obama shows off White House Christmas decorations

First Lady Michelle Obama on Wednesday shows off the extensive White House Christmas 2011 decorations, giving military families the first look--and a chance to sample treats from White House chief chef Cris Comerford and pastry guru Bill Yosses. The Obamas once again will be hosting a bunch of holiday parties at the White House, including--full disclosure--one for the press on Dec. 9.

below, from the White House....

Wednesday, November 30 * 12:30 P.M. - Mrs. Obama will welcome military families, including Gold Star and Blue Star parents, spouses and children, to the White House for the first viewing of the 2011 holiday decorations. Mrs. Obama will deliver remarks in the East Room, and then ask military children to join her in the State Dining Room as White House Chefs Cris Comerford and Bill Yosses, and White House Florist Laura Dowling demonstrate holiday crafts and treats. This year, a special Gold Star Christmas tree decorated by Gold Star families will be displayed at the visitor's entrance on the East Wing Landing. The theme of this year's Blue Room Christmas Tree will be honoring Blue Star families.

Members of the media will have the opportunity to cover the decorations on the ground and State floors of the White House prior to the event. Media coverage of the decorations will begin at approximately 12:30 PM, concluding with coverage of Mrs. Obama's remarks and visit with military children, beginning at approximately 1:30 PM. This event will be open press, but space is limited. Members of the media who wish to cover this event must RSVP to firstladypress@who.eop.gov by Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at 10:00 AM ET. Press who do not have a White House hard pass must include their social security number, date of birth, country of citizenship, current city/state of residence and gender.
