WASHINGTON--Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.) will protest the tough Alabama immigration law on Saturday--in Alabama.
I'm told by the Gutierrez camp that the trip is intended to push back on the Alabama immigration law. Gutierrez, a national leader on immigration issues, will suggest to Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano that if there were ever a place to stand up for her new deportation guidelines targeting criminals, she needs to take a stand against a state that has decided to target everyone willy-nilly. He speaks to the NAACP state convention, then has a press conference in Montgomery and a big rally in Birmingham in the afternoon, all on Saturday. He starts his day in Eufaula.
