WASHINGTON--White House senior advisor Valerie Jarrett hit the cable talk shows Thursday, in the run-up to President Obama's unveiling his new job creation plan before a joint session of Congress.
Jarrett told the Fox Business Network how the President will finance his jobs programs. "What I will say generally and the President has said this before is that we do need to close loop holes. We need a fair tax system. We need to make sure that people that are paying their fair share; that those who can most afford to pay a little bit more do. And so I think that the process that Secretary Geithner has been going through looking at corporate tax reform generally will come out later. But in this particular bill, the President will be looking to close loopholes."
And on the mission of the President's jobs plan, she said, "The goal of the American Jobs Act is to create jobs right now. It will be fully paid for. We are going to create a wide range of jobs. There will be a range of tax benefits for small businesses and startups. The important message is we need to act now and that is what the President will be calling on congress to do. There are programs in the package that have received bipartisan support in the past. This should not be controversial."
