WASHINGTON--White House Senior Advisor Valerie Jarrett is in California this week, on her most extensive fund-raising swing yet for President Barack Obama's 2012 re-election bid.
Jarrett is one of the major surrogates on the trail for the Obama/Biden ticket, both prospecting with potential donors and headlining events with an admission price. Jarrett has a unique place in the Obama orbit, a personal friend of the president and First Lady Michelle and a key advisor with an extensive portfolio.
In San Francisco, Jarrett also delivered a speech at the APEC (Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation) Women and the Economy Summit on Wednesday. First Lady Chief of Staff Tina Tchen also spoke to the group.
Jarrett then headed to Berkeley for a fund-raiser at the home of John and Dorine Streeter, with tickets starting at $1,000. From there, she traveled to Piedmont for another funder in the home of Wayne Jordan and Quinn Delaney at a $5,000 per couple event.
In July I wrote about the speakers series the Obama fund-raising team launched--Mayor Rahm Emanuel debuted the program in New York. On Thursday, Jarrett was scheduled to kick off the San Francisco speakers series, with tickets $5,000 per person.
The series was developed by Obama's fund-raising team to market to donors and bundlers -- people who tap into their personal networks to raise money for a candidate -- who may not be able to handle the $35,000 dinners Obama, Mrs. Obama or Vice President Joe Biden.
On Thursday evening, Jarrett is the draw at a fundraising dinner at the home of Noosheen Hashemi in Atherton, with tickets at $2,500 per person.
Moving on from the Bay area to Sacramento, on Friday Jarrett headlines fund-raising lunch at the Sutter Club there, with tickets starting at $2,500.
Heading to Los Angeles, Jarrett headlines an afternoon reception being marketed to women at the home of Michael Kong and Stacy Twilley where Demi Moore is one of the co-hosts. Tickets start at $1,000 for a mother/daughter combo.
From the invite: join Jarrett for "an afternoon reception and discussion focusing on empowering women and girls and encouraging a career in politics and public service."
On Aug. 11, Jarrett was in Columbia, S.C. for a field office visit and to appear at a Generation 44 fund-raisers. She was in Detroit on June 29 and Los Angeles on May 13 for fund-raisers.
