UPDATE - VISITS TWO OTHER SCHOOLS WITH LONGER SCHOOL DAYS

Emanuel... joined Chicago Public Schools CEO Jean-Claude Brizard to welcome students to the first day of school at STEM Magnet Academy. Following that visit, the Mayor stopped by Genevieve Melody Elementary and Skinner North Elementary schools to welcome students there to the first day of this school year. He also congratulated the schools' principals and teachers for courageously voting last week to lengthen their school day by 90 minutes.

Mayor Emanuel will join Chicago Public Schools (CPS) CEO Jean-Claude Brizard to welcome students to the first day of school at STEM Magnet Academy.

* There will be a media availability following this event. In case of rain, press can use main entrance to proceed to the STEM Magnet Academy Multi-Purpose Room.

Mayor Emanuel will join U.S. Representative Mike Quigley and members of the Chicago Blackhawks at the National Hockey League's "Hockey is For Everyone" sports clinic.
