Highlights From Press Conference Call With RNC Chairman Priebus & IL GOP Chairman Brady On Obama's Taxpayer-Funded Debt-End Bus Tour


RNC Chairman Reince Priebus:

"We don't believe that it is any coincidence that the president is embarking on this sham jobs tour in his Canadian bus ... He is doing this because this bus tour is nothing but another campaign jaunt for this president, who as we all know, is absolutely in love with being the campaigner-in-chief ...

"This is an outrage that the taxpayers of this country would have to foot the bill so that the campaigner-in-chief can run around in his Canadian bus and act as if he is interested in creating jobs in our country ...

"I think he should spend a little more time in the White House and doing his job as opposed to running around in Canadian busses and planning his next vacation in Martha's Vineyard ...

"Two weeks ago, the president said that his number one focus would be jobs. And he promised, like he always likes to do through speeches, to put together a jobs plan. But yet again we have no plan from the president. We have no engagement from the president ...

"Obama's economy has failed and obviously it's failed in Illinois as well. Since he and Gov. Quinn took office, Illinois has lost over 125,000 jobs, state unemployment has risen to 9.2 percent ...

"While he can run from Washington and take a campaign tour, he can't run from his record and we are going to be there every single step of the way ... And we are not going to let this president pull the wool over the American people's eyes with a sham bus tour paid for by the taxpayers."


Illinois GOP Chairman Pat Brady:

"This taxpayer-funded campaign bus tour isn't going to do a thing to improve our economy here in Illinois or create jobs. ...

"Right now the citizens of the state of Illinois, since Obama and Quinn have taken office, pay more taxes, they may more for groceries, they pay twice as much per gallon of gas ... Their houses are worth less, there are fewer jobs, major employers are leaving or threatening to leave in droves ...

"They had a half of a percentage point increase in the unemployment rate in Henry County, further undercutting the argument of the effectiveness of President Obama's stimulus package. These were short-term, one-time government-funded jobs that have since left the county ...

"In 2010, just 2 years after President Obama won election to the White House, in Henry County, the Democrats lost control of the county board for the first time in 20 years ...

"Since the election, we've elected Mark Kirk to the United States Senate, 5 new congressmen, 6 new Republican House members and 2 new Senate members. We've won county boards all over the state. In fact, Mark Kirk won 100 of 102 counties in his last election.

"Welcome back, Mr. President. I hope you listen to the good citizens of Henry County who will tell you your tax-spend-and regulate approach doesn't work."
