Below, memo from White House press secretary Jay Carney.......

White House colleagues:

As part of our restructuring of the White House communications and press operations, I am pleased to announce following appointments:

Josh Earnest, who has served as Deputy Press Secretary since President Obama entered the White House, will be promoted to fill a newly created position.
As Special Assistant to the President and Principal Deputy White House Press Secretary, he'll assume responsibility for being prepared to brief reporters and travel with the President on those occasions when I am not available to do so. He will also assist me in overseeing the talented and dedicated staff of spokesmen and spokeswomen here in our office who ably serve the President, the American people and the White House press corps.

Jamie Smith will join the White House Communications team as Special Assistant to the President and Deputy Press Secretary.
In addition to serving as an on-the-record spokesperson for the White House, she will manage the day-to-day operations of our office. An experienced and well-regarded manager and communicator, Jamie is currently Director of Public Affairs for the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI). Before that, she was Communications Director for U.S. Senator John D. (Jay) Rockefeller IV when he was Chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee and then Chairman of the Senate Commerce Committee. Smith also served as Traveling Press Director for the Hillary Clinton for President Campaign, Communications Director for former Secretary of State Madeleine K. Albright and The Albright Group, and Legislative Aide to Congresswoman Nita M. Lowey. Smith is from Buffalo Grove, Illinois, and a graduate of Kenyon College.

Please join me in congratulating Josh and welcoming Jamie to the team.

Best, Jay
