Biden in Boston, cranking up 2012 Obama fund raising machine

WASHINGTON---Vice President Biden heads to Boston on Monday, for a late afternoon Democratic National Committee event to jazz up mega donors for the 2012 Obama re-election campaign. The event is not a fund-raiser where someone pays to attend; it is an invite for past and future bundlers to get some face time with Biden so they will take on major fund-raising duties for the 2012 Obama re-election campaign. Last week, President Obama attended two DNC events in Washington aimed at the mega donors who are, have been or will be on his National Finance Committee. At present, all the 2012 organizing is being done by the DNC--Obama's political arm--because the papers to officially create the 2012 Obama re-elect organization have not yet been filed.

Boston has always been fertile fund-raising ground for Obama, with the way paved for him by Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick; his first campaign media advisors were David Axelrod and David Plouffe, former and present Obama White House senior advisors. Patrick used Axelrod's former firm, AKPD, for his re-election campaign. Obama was in Boston two weeks ago for a Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee gathering.

Biden in the 2010 cycle headlined scores of events for Democrats and already is in play for 2012. He headlined a DCCC event in Philadelphia last week.

The Obama re-elect game plan calls for the Obama team to initially focus on massive money raising. Obama raised $750 million for his 2008 bid---including his primary battle. Obama 2012 Campaign manager Jim Messina has been criss crossing the nation in recent weeks for what is called in the fund-raising business "prospecting" meetings.

Messina is organizing the leadership of Obama's 2012 massive fund-raising effort, along with DNC finance director Rufus Gifford, who will be the Obama 2012 finance director and incoming deputy campaign manager Julianna Smoot, who finished her tenure as White House Social Secretary last week.

Penny Pritzker, the 2008 finance chair will not be reprising her role in 2012, I reported earlier, though she will be active in helping the drive.

Bundlers are people who tap into their own extensive personal networks to raise money for a candidate.

I've had a string of posts about Obama 2012 fund raising:
