Obama pals Marty Nesbitt, Anita Blanchard hosting Rahm Emanuel meet and greet

WASHINGTON -- Two of President Obama and first lady Michelle's closest friends -- Martin Nesbitt and his wife, Anita Blanchard -- are hosting a "meet and greet" for Rahm Emanuel at their Kenwood home on Tuesday.

The event is not a fund-raiser per se, where people pay to get in the door, Nesbitt told me; rather, the event is a way to allow some of their friends to get to know Emanuel.

Dr. Blanchard, an obstetrician -- she delivered the Obama daughters -- is the driving force behind the meet and greet at their home, Nesbitt said.

Nesbitt was treasurer of Obama's 2008 campaign. He said he was not certain what his role in the 2012 campaign will be; Nesbitt does not need a title or formal position because he is an entrenched member of the Obama inner circle.

Former Obama White House Social Secretary Desiree Rogers is also backing Emanuel, chairing a fund-raiser for him featuring Jennifer Hudson.
