President Obama official schedule and guidance, Aug. 10, 2010. Teachers, ambassadors UPDATE Former Richton Park teacher at White House

Rachel Martin (age 43)

Rachel taught kindergarten at Richton Square School in the Matteson School District in Richton Park, Illinois until she was laid off in March. She is a member of the Illinois Education Association, a local affiliate of the NEA, and if the Education Jobs Fund passes and the funds come through, she would be among the first on the list of laid-off teachers in her district to be re-hired.

In the morning, the President will receive the Presidential Daily Briefing and the Economic Daily Briefing in the Oval Office. These meetings are closed press.

Later in the morning, the President will deliver a statement to the press urging the House of Representatives to pass a package of critical relief to states and funding to save approximately 160,000 teacher jobs across the country. The President will be joined by teachers on-stage. The President's remarks in the Rose Garden are open press.

In the afternoon, the President will participate in an Ambassador Credentialing Ceremony in the Oval Office. At this event, the President will receive the credentials from foreign Ambassadors recently posted in Washington. The presentation of credentials is a traditional ceremony that marks the formal beginning of an Ambassador's service in Washington. This event is closed press. The following Ambassadors will attend:

Ambassador Afelee Falema Pita, Tuvalu

Later in the afternoon, the President will meet separately with senior advisors and with Secretary of Defense Gates in the Oval Office. These meetings are closed press.
