THE WHITE HOUSE
Office of the Press Secretary

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 29, 2010

DAILY GUIDANCE AND PRESS SCHEDULE FOR
FRIDAY, JULY 30, 2010

In the morning, the President will travel to Michigan to tour and speak to workers at a Chrysler Auto Plant in Detroit and a General Motors Auto Plant in Hamtramck. The President's remarks at the Chrysler Plant are open press. There will be travel pool coverage of the President's tour of the Chrysler Plant and tour of the General Motors Plant. The President's remarks at the General Motors Plant are pooled press.

Just over a year after President Obama made tough decisions to save Chrysler and GM, these companies are returning to profitability, hiring workers, and keeping plants open. And because of the steps the Administration and Congress have taken with Cash for Clunkers and the Recovery Act, the industry overall is strengthening. The Hamtramck GM plant is one of nine that GM recently kept open during a scheduled summer shutdown in production. The Jefferson North Chrysler plant just added a second shift bringing approximately 1,100 jobs to the plant.

The President will return to Washington, DC in the afternoon. The departure from Detroit Metro Wayne County Airport and the arrival on the South Lawn are open press.
