Lynn Sweet is a columnist and the Washington Bureau Chief for the
I have lived in Pensacola, Florida for over 15 years. During this time I was a Managing Director of transportation of Oil and Fuel products. I was a member if "American Society of Safety Engineers" before I retired. We have regulations in Escambia county that regulated the delivery of fuel and oil to the tree harvesters, wood and paper mills and general areas where oil / fuel can come in contact with the ground and/or bay. We delivered bulk fuel and oil to several Marinas in our are. All this to say that we were required to have monitoring wells for ground water contamination and if there was ever a spill and/or contamination we had our own "SPILL CLEAN UP" procedures and disposal locations here in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties. There are several fuel refineries along our coast and we receive our crude oil by BARGE. Every location has a "SPILL CLEAN UP TEAM" and equipment in place. This procedure is practicel all along the Gulf Coast from Texas to Miami, Florida. MY QUESTION TO OUR PRESIDENT IS, "WHY DON'T YOU LET THE PROFESSIONALS FROM OUR AREA ASSIST IN THE CLEAN UP PROCESS. WE ARE CONSTANTLY TRAINED AND RETRAINED IN ALL THE NEW 'SIPLL CLEAN UP PRODUCTS' AND DISPOSAL PROCEDURES. WE ALREADY AHVE THE EQUIPMENT IN PLACE AND THE TRAINED PERSONNEL ON STAFF".
Respectfully Submitted;
If this has not been done already, will someone inform the President what I heard (somewhere on the news)... that a supervisor on the ship told an employee to skip one or more safety precautions just before this catastrophe happened on the gulf. If you have President Obama's phone or text address, please inform him of this today, before the nation address today. I would like the President to comment on this information in his address this evening.
