Michelle Obama, Malia, Sasha, New York Spring break visit: Broadway, Harlem, Brooklyn

Updated Thursday afternoon....

First lady Michelle Obama took daughters Malia, 11, and Sasha, 8, mother Marian Robinson and some pals to New York for a spring break trip where they hit Broadway shows, toured the Empire State Building and visited Harlem and Brooklyn. They returned to Washington on Wednesday, stopping at the Statue of Liberty en route back to the White House.

Here's the bite they have taken from the Big Apple, besides lunching at the Russian Tea Room and the Dinosaur Bar-B-Q in Harlem:

• Wednesday. The Obama group toured the "Sesame Street" studio. They hit Brooklyn, visiting the Brooklyn Bridge Park, the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory and a well-known pizzeria, Grimaldi's. (The New York Times quoted the waiter who served the entourage: "I think they said it was better than Chicago pizza.")

• Tuesday. Harlem was a focus. The Obama group toured the Studio Theater and the famous Apollo Theater. Mrs. Obama and friends dine at Aquavit, ownded by Marcus Samuelsson, the guest chef at White House first state dinner for the Prime Minister of India. She ordered the tasting menu.

• Monday night: A preview of a new musical, "The Addams Family," which opens next month.

• Sunday matinee: The musical "Memphis" about an interracial couple in segregation-era Tennessee. Before that, brunch at the Mesa Grill.

• Saturday night: Blue Man group. On the same day they stopped at Dylan's Candy Bar.

I hope you all had a swell time.

Let's see now...ice crea, candy and pizza???

Is the new diet program just for everyone else??

@helen woods - how disingenuous of you. Didja think we wouldn't notice? From my perspective these kids play football, basketball and dance, and have sporty parents who make sure they eat right at home. And you're suggesting that on spring break, one pizza means their mother's whole childhood obesity program is bust? Sigh. Your life must be just full of disappointment if you go around looking for the worst like that. Me, I think that kids in New York with their mother can have a pizza, a bit of ice cream, and a candy bar. Over the course of three days.

"Rolling eyes and shaking my head". People ... my people - Good Lord!! Being on a diet does not mean that a person cannot eat a piece of pizza, have ice cream or eat a piece of candy. People simply need to think "moderation" and "exercise". First Lady is on Spring Break with her children and mother for God's sake. Do you really expect the children to not enjoy pizza and ice cream? The First Lady's focus on obesity is because of the inactive lifestyle's that children have taken on and in many ways because of their lazy parents. Her overall message is to eat in moderation and get plenty of exercise and this in turn prevents obesity.

Yes helen woods the new diet program is just for you!!! Make sure you stick to it okay. "Let's Move" is about eating healthy, eating in moderation, and exercising. But she never said you can't have any of these things. Did she? She is on vacation with her kids,

@helen--if you are rich and your daddy is expanding george bush's wars and forcing a fake health care reform down the nation's throats, the calories don't stick to you.

NOW, THAT IS WHAT I CALL GETTING AROUND, MICHELLE, MILIA, SASHA AND MARION. YOU "HIT" THE BROADWAY AND EVERYBODY SHOULD EAT AT DINASAURS BAR-BE-QUE, EVEN LOYCE. YOU LADIES "HIT" ENOUGH TO LAST AWHILE, I AM SURE. THE FIRST LADY IS YOUNG AND STILL A GOOD SPORT, SHE'S NOT OLD FOGY STUFF YET, ANOTHER TWENTY YEARS, THEN MAYBE, BUT, TODAY SHE IS A GOOD SPORT, THAT'S A HEALTHY APPEARENCE IN 2010.

Do as I say but I wont' do as I say. Hey Michelle, if your so worried about childhood obesity then start practicing what you preach with your own children.

Where is the Studio Theater? Never heard of it and I live in Harlem.

I suspect the trips to the sweets stores were a special treat for the girls. There is a difference between feeding them that stuff daily and having a special treat while on vacation. At least that was how I was raised.

Now Helen...her message is..."in moderation," not deprivation sweetheart.
