Sarah Palin at the Gridiron Dinner takes shots at self, journos

WASHINGTON--What! Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, palin' around with a group of elite journalists? She was, the Gridiron Club winter dinner, where she took shots at herself and the journos in the audience.

I'm taking a quick break from the dinner to file this, so I'm not ready to say yet if she has given one of those speeches that turned around her image. But in her 11 minute, 36 second speech, she did no harm to herself. Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) speaks in about 15 minutes.

Some of Palin's lines:

"You betcha. Who talks that way?"

On deciding to speak to the Gridiron Club "Sometimes you just got to trust your instincts. And when you don"t, you end up in places like this."

"At least now I can put a face to the newspapers I do read."

"It's good to be here though, really, in front of this audience of leading journalists and intellectuals, or as I like to call it, a death panel."

On being on the same program as Frank "And I'm the controversial one?

IMO Gov. Palin has timing, a good sense of humor and a very quick wit! I know that everyone is different, I always say that's what makes the world go round and everyone has a right to their own opinion. But when I hear Sarah Palin speak, and listen to her position on policies (especially her "all of the above" ideas regarding energy) and read what she writes I can't figure out what there is not to love? It puzzles me that everyone doesn't listen to her and say 'You gotta love her!' Yep, I think Sarah Palin is great, yet I know everyone is different.

Why wouldn't Mrs. Palin be comfortable among reporters? She has a degree in journalism. Of course, she had to go to five of America's best back-water colleges to get it.

She even worked in TV news, as a sportscaster.

Now, now, Mike. Your liberal elitist attitude is showing. Do you any idea how many people have gone to those 'back-water' colleges?

Governor Palin speaks to regular Americans because she is a regular American, not an elitist. With the elitists in DC doing such a bang-up job of destroying this country, I find her refreshing.

Miss Sarah is wonderful. America's best back-water
colleges are better than the elite ones who put out the Kerry types, full of liberalism. Thanks, but I like people who speak plainly and honestly like Sarah Palin, you betcha! Tired of the lies.

Hey, Mike.....Backwater colleges? You have such contempt for Americans who didnt go to the "right" schools? Clearly you are an expert on those 5 schools, why dont you tell us some more about them?
