DAILY GUIDANCE AND PRESS SCHEDULE FOR

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 14, 2009

In the morning, the President will receive the Presidential Daily Briefing in the Oval Office. This meeting is closed press. The President will then meet with his national security team on Afghanistan and Pakistan in the Situation Room. This meeting is closed press. Expected attendees include:

In the afternoon, the President and Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood will tour the Fairfax County Parkway Extension project, the largest Recovery Act project in Virginia. The tour is pooled press. After the tour, the President will deliver remarks on the economic benefits of the Recovery Act. The remarks are pooled press.

Later, the President will sign an Executive Order restoring the White House Advisory Commission and Interagency Working Group to address issues concerning the Asian American and Pacific Islander community. At the East Room ceremony, the President will also observe Diwali, or the "Festival of Lights," a holiday celebrated across faiths. This event is open press and will be streamed live on www.WhiteHouse.gov.

In the evening, the President will deliver remarks at an event at the Ritz Carlton Hotel celebrating the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate. The President's remarks are pooled press. The Institute will be dedicated to educating the general public, students, teachers, new Senators, and Senate staff about the role and importance of the Senate. In keeping with Senator Kennedy's lifetime of public service, a major goal of the Institute will be to improve civic education in the nation and educate and inspire a new generation of active citizens and legislators. The Institute will be located on the campus of the University of Massachusetts, adjacent to the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library on Columbia Point in Boston.

Also tomorrow, in the second installment of an innovative new series reaching out to states and regions across the country, the White House and HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius will welcome Senator Patty Murray for a live online video chat at 3:45PM EDT. The Secretary and the Senator will sit down for a half hour at the White House in a session streamed live at www.WhiteHouse.gov to answer the questions that the Senator hears most frequently from her constituents in Washington state. In addition to being streamed live at WhiteHouse.gov, the Secretary and the Senator and will also take questions live through the White House's video chat Facebook application. The Facebook application can be viewed at any time at: http://apps.facebook.com/whitehouselive/.
