Genealogist Megan Smolenyak explains how she researched Mrs. Obama's roots at Roots Television

The New York Times has an in-depth article on the family history of First Lady Michelle Obama. Her great great great grandparents include the enslaved Melvinia Shields and, as the New York Times said, "the unknown white man who impregnated her."

Click here for an interactive graphic of the Michelle Obama family tree, put together with the help of genealogist Megan Smolenyak

Can they look a little farther back to find the African Tribal Leader that sold her family to white slave traders?

IF SOME OF YOU HAD WATCHED ALEX HALEY'S ROOTS, YOU WOULDN'T BE SURPRISED BY ANY OF THIS, THE RAPE OF YOUNG GIRLS BY THE SLAVE MASTER IS VERY WELL KNOWN INFORMATION!

HE RAPED AN INNOCENT GIRL, HE SHOULD REMAIN UNKNOWN!

Actually, Phil, I read Roots in addition to seeing the movie. I would recommend "Mandingo" for you to see. That should sufficiently tick you off enough to keep you living in the past for another decade. Get over it, move on!
