Henry Louis Gates: "We can have our differences without demonizing one another"

Prof. Henry Louis Gates Jr., over at TheRoot.com has this statement about his meeting with President Obama and Cambridge Police Sgt. James Crowley to discuss his arrest at his home by Crowley--and Obama's labeling the incident as Cambridge police acting "stupidly." The three were joined by Vice President Biden.

Writes Gates, "It is incumbent upon Sergeant Crowley and me to utilize the great opportunity that fate has given us to foster greater sympathy among the American public for the daily perils of policing on the one hand, and for the genuine fears of racial profiling on the other hand.

"...The national conversation over the past week about my arrest has been rowdy, not to say tumultuous and unruly. But we've learned that we can have our differences without demonizing one another."

Clap him off the stage. He is doing more to damage race relations in the community than to help it. A haughty professor gets cuffed! Good! Throw them all in jail, black or white. Especially Harvard professors.

Mr. Gates - who's we? The only one demonizing and name calling was you. "I'll come outside and talk to your Mama"? Grow up.

This is no longer news worthy. Quite giving it quality time.

Who picked up the tab (or Tax) on the meeting at the White House including the private jet used to transort the participants Crowley and Gates?

WHAT RELATIONS ARE YOU SPEAKING OF, THE MAN WAS HANDCUFFED IN HIS OWN HOME, IN CAMBRIDGE, MASS,
WHY WAS HE HANDCUFFED, WHY CAN'T HE SPEAK, WHY IS IT THAT HE IS SETTING RELATIONS BACK, I DON'T THINK IN CAMBRIDGE THERE ARE ANY RELATIONS, THE NEIGHBORS DON'T KNOW EACH OTHER, A MAN COMES HOME FROM CHINA, CAN'T GET IN HIS OWN HOUSE, THEN HE GETS HANDCUFFED BECAUSE THE OFFICER DOESN'T LIKE WHAT HE SAID TO HIM, NOW YOU KNOW WHY THE LOW-END IS LIKE IT IS, IF THIS MAN, A COLLEGE PROFESSOR GETS TREATED LIKE THIS, WELL THEN THE WORLD IS UPSIDE DOWN, DON'T BLAME THE PROFESSOR, HE DIDN'T HANDCUFF HIMSELF, HE ISN'T GOING TO SCRATCH WHEN HE DOESN'T ITCH, AND HE ISN'T GOING TO PLAY THE STEPPIN FETCHIT ROUTINE EITHER, HE IS A MAN LIKE DENMARK VESEY, LIKE SOJOURNER TRUTH, IDA B. WELLS,
THURGOOD MARSHALL, HE WASN'T GOING TO ACT LIKE
CLARENCE THOMAS OR JUAN WILLIAMS, HE ACTED LIKE
A REAL MAN, AND I THANK HIM FOR ACTING THIS WAY!
THE NEXT TIME IT COULD BE ME OR YOU!

Sorry, Mr. Gates still comes across with a giant chip on his shoulder, and maybe things were done to calm things down publicly, I doubt they really were. You may have a problem with the police, but they are there for everyones safety. His attitude was extremely insulting to the officer, whether he was an educated man or a bum. People want to scream about crime, they want to scream about not enough officers, and yet when they try to do their jobs they are still screamed at. Go figure.

DEAR MILLIE
YOU ARE CONFUSING CONFIDENCE WITH A CHIP, THE MAN IS WELL-EDUCATED AND WELL-TRAVELED, HE ISN'T GOING TO ACT LIKE A SCARED CHILD, HE IS A REAL MAN, I THINK THAT BOTHERS SOME, IT DOESN'T BOTHER ME, WE SHOULD ALL BE AS CONFIDENT, AND EDUCATED AS PROFESSOR GATES, I THINK SOME WOULD PREFER HIM TO BE UNEDUCATED AND SCARY, THE POLICE OFFICER DIDN'T LIKE THE FACT THAT HE WAS A PROFESSOR AT HARVARD, AND HE WAS INTIMIDATED BY HIS CONFIDENCE,
HIS COOL DEMEANOR, THEN HE SAYS STEP OUTSIDE, AND
THEN HE HANDCUFFS A SENIOR CITIZEN, A VERY BAD
MOVE, THIS MAN IS WELL LOVED AND RESPECTED AND HE
IS KNOWN ALL OVER THE WORLD, NEXT TIME RELAX AND
SERVE AND PROTECT, AND DON'T OVERREACT!
HANDCUFFING A SENIOR CITIZEN IS DISGRACEFUL!
