Hello, I'm Valerie Jarrett, Senior Advisor to President Barack Obama.
President Rogge and esteemed members of the International Olympic Committee, I am delighted to address you today on behalf of the President Barack Obama and the United States government ma.
The Obama administration is fully committed to the Olympic and Paralympic Games and has the highest regard for the Olympic Movement and its ability to effect change around the world.
The support we have committed to provide Chicago is unprecedented for a U.S. bid city.
Our administration will work closely with Chicago 2016 and Mayor Daley to make youth sport a national priority. In fact, just yesterday President Obama created a permanent White House Office for Olympic, Paralympic and Youth Sport.
Through this office, we will enhance awareness of the Olympic Movement and develop opportunities for youth in urban areas to participate in sport. By increasing opportunities for young people to participate in sport, we will strengthen communities and leave a lasting legacy from the Games.
In addition, should Chicago have the honor of being selected 2016 Host City, the White House will utilize this new office to ensure the seamless integration of the federal government and its resources to support Chicago's planning and operations.
We look forward to working with you to further the Olympic Movement.
