DAILY GUIDANCE AND PRESS SCHEDULE FOR
WEDNESDAY, MAY 13, 2009

In the morning, the President and the Vice President will meet with Speaker Nancy Pelosi, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, House Ways and Means Committee Chair Rep. Charlie Rangel, House Energy and Commerce Committee Chair Rep. Henry Waxman, and House Education and Labor Committee Chair Rep. George Miller in the Oval Office. The meeting will be closed press. Following the meeting, the President will make a statement on the South Drive at the Oval Office. The statement will be pooled press.

Later in the morning, the President will receive the Presidential Daily Briefing and Economic Daily Briefing in the Oval Office. During the Economic Daily Briefing, the Vice President will present the President with the first Quarterly Report on progress implementing the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act of 2009. These briefings are closed press.

The President and the Vice President will then meet with Majority Leader Harry Reid, Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, Senate Judiciary Committee Chair Patrick Leahy, and Senate Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Jeff Sessions in the Oval Office. There will be a still pool spray at the top of the meeting.

The President and the Vice President will have lunch in the Oval Office. This lunch is closed press.

In the afternoon, the President will travel to Phoenix, Arizona. The departure from the South Lawn and the arrival at Sky Harbor Airport are open press. In the evening, the President will deliver the commencement address at Arizona State University in Tempe. The event is open to pre-credentialed media.

Following the ceremony, the President will depart to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he will spend the night.

Also tomorrow, HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack will meet with members of the White House Food Safety Working Group, which has been charged by the President to produce recommendations that will upgrade our food safety system for the 21st century. They will participate in a listening session with stakeholders representing a diverse range of organizations in room 450 of the Eisenhower Executive Office Building. The opening plenary session at 9:00AM EDT will be open to members of the media. Members of the media who do not have hard passes must email their full name, date of birth and Social Security number to media_affairs@who.eop.gov in order to attend the event.
