WASHINGTON--As of 8:44 a.m. eastern time, 82,066 people have submitted 91,075 questions and cast 3,245,022 votes on questions on the economy for President Obama to answer Thursday in his first Internet town hall.

There's a last minute surge as the submission period ends at 9:30 a.m. eastern today. As of 6:32 p.m. eastern time on Wednesday, 33,280 people had submitted 34,338 questions and cast 1,234,659 votes.

The town hall will be live at www.whitehouse.gov at 11:30 a.m. eastern time Thursday.

The Obama White House used Google moderator, an open source tool available to the public, to take in the questions and let people vote on the questions they want Obama to address.

From Thursday's White House guidance: the President will participate in an "Open for Questions" town hall on the economy in the East Room. The President will answer questions about the economy submitted and voted on by the public through WhiteHouse.gov and engage a live audience for follow-up questions afterwards. Jared Bernstein, chief economist for Vice President Biden, will facilitate the town hall, reading some of the most popular questions from the website and cueing video questions.

The audience will be composed of approximately 100 people, including teachers, nurses, small business owners, and community leaders - and an audience of thousands across the country who will watch the event via webstream at WhiteHouse.gov/OpenForQuestions.

Members of the public can pose a question or vote for a particular question until 9:30AM EDT tomorrow by visiting WhiteHouse.gov/OpenForQuestions.

This is another great example of using technology to reach out to people. It seems to be so difficult for a president to keep in touch with the electorate these days with all the security.

Kudos to President Obama for making a real effort to keep people informed using these methods in addition normal channels.

I am a single adult my question is why do single Americans have to pay more taxes than married folks
Do you think this is unfair and should be revised?
I choose not to be married ,but don't feel it is fair for the government to penalize single people.
please help me understand.

What date did you say we would start to get a Federal Tax cut in our payroll?

President Obama,
The College kids across America voted for you, believed in you. Why are YOU letting them down?
I was hoping that since you did get in to the Oval Office that things would start looking up.
Between your Office and the news media it's very grim. Please take a step back look at the middle class- people that have worked so hard keeping there businesses afloat. In stead of giving the big guys bailout - help out the small businesses.
Tell people it's ok to spend money - once that cycle starts the economy should fix itself.
Laurie Esterlein " Proud to be an American"

My question for the President is, You said there would be a one time stimulus check of 250 for people on social security. That is nice but not realistic. I need that raise every month. I have had several of my perscriptios go up 20 dollars each. My money does not cover what it did before. Us seniors need a huge raise every month not just a one time 250 stimulis check. We need help now forget giving all that money away. Help us seniors please.

I am a dentist serving patients residing in nursing homes and rehabilitation homes exclusively. We survive on fee for service Medicaid (although Missouri have cut adult Medicaid dental benefits). I think our model may be of benefit in the health care crisis. How can I help the President?

Im glad to see our new President involving the public to attend the townhall. This president is trying his best to bring America back to the way before Bush and his thugs did whatever it took to bring the whole globe to its knees. This new president has no time to be answering"gotcha"questions from the media;or being sandbagged by the rotten"ROBOTS"republicans.Im not convinced that republicans can run anything but their mouths;being everytime the repubs are in charge ;why does America go under?and please can America lose this republican party and let America thrive?PLEASE??????.

I had a chance to see a portion of this town hall meeting at work and must say that it is inspiring to see such a move come to pass. I was bewildered though when after only a few questions that Fox news decided to show a commercial. I found this both disrespectfull to me as well to the office of the president. I understand the need for Fox's positioning but to try a sell to me during this event really set me back. Thank the stars for NPR.

The proposed cuts in Medicare and Medicaid will have a terrible effect on the elderly and those who are charged with the care of the elderly. These are the people who for years have served the country in many ways.

This will mean the closings of excellent care facilities whao are now struggling with higher costs in salaries and higher costs for goods. They need to hire caring and compasionate staff. Please don't let the older population just DIE because they are aged.

Just watched this today. It was an excellent platform to reach a mass audience.

Why can't all bills for President's approval(SIC)\be delayed for 5 business days for my reading, so as to inform my Congressional representatives how to vote???

We usually know more than they KNOW!!! Absolutely!!!

Where can I see the President's answering the qustions 26. march?

Speaking of submission(s), Mr. President, I Would like to politely ask you what exactly are you planning on doing about the use of DU ammunition during combat ( DEPLETED URANIUM)? I'm almost certain you know what I'm talking about...I can send you some interesting pics of gulf war veterans children and the other horrifying pics of D.N.A genocide that will go on for thousands of years in the midlle east, THANKS TO AMERICAS WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION! Please... Mr. President... Do something about DU!!!! It's not right and innocent lives are robbed for generations because of it!
