I watched bits and pieces of the President's town-hall appearance, last night. But, with this week's disclosures of AIG's myriad insults to the nation...how appropriate is it for Mr. Obama to "yuk it up" with a late-night television comedian? "Leno" is well-past my bedtime, so I'll be at the mercy of the obligatory sound-bites on the early-morning newscasts, and won't see what the President says...and how he conveys it...within its context. It just seems to me to be rather questionable taste for him to trot-out his message using what is a traditionally "casual", and, at times, "sassy" venue to "talk shop" at Leno's desk, when there are so many volatile and unhappy challenges facing the nation...

Mr. Obama, it is time to leave the campaigning behind and get down to business. The time for celebrity and schmoozing hollywood is over. Let's get going here.

President Obama is taking time to understand that California is broke and in need. He comes at such a great and wonderful time. Again, a vision of hope for us here in California. We have to stop letting this beautiful state bleed to death. The loss of schools are a heat break for the children of this state. The children our the future of this country and President Obama is so aware of the needs of our country. Would it not be nice to say we will stand behind th eleader of this country and work together to try and put the peices back of this great nation. When you walk down the street and see a family of homeless undr a cardboard box..do you think the parents ask for this...is this the fault of the child? The greed in this country continues by not getting on the ship with the President and picking up the orr and paddling in the right direction..They didn't fight Washington on that famous night on the Potomic River...Just get on board and stop being part of the problem...Lets work together for a better nation.

Only thing inappropriate is that Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld arent in jail or awaiting execution(treason for Cheneys spygate) for murdering us troops and causing this mess

I caught some of the town hall meeting yesterday on television and will watch the rest of it on C-span. With the internet we are no longer beholden to any specific time to watch our president in action.

I think the town hall and Leno formats entirely appropriate and worthy. Too few of Americans watch or listen to the weekly address, and the sound bites are massaged by the media to tell the story they want to tell. By taking it to the people Obama is keeping us informed at the level of attention too much of America is capable of.

Those of us that want more can visit www.Whitehouse.gov and www.cspan.org as well as www.youtube.com for rather pretty higher definition feed.

I am not opposed to the dissemination of information. My opposition is to the salesmanship that still seems to be going on here. I'd like some leadership, not a figurehead who talks a good talk but doesn't appear to be getting down to business. The time for TV appearances and town hall meetings will come soon enough when the campaign cycle begins again. I've heard a lot of nice speeches but as a Californian who has been laid off, watched neighbors lose homes and is now facing a substantial tax increase I am looking for more than words.

Wow, I didn't know that there were this many uneducated citizens on here! If you look above all the threads, you can see exactly what Obama did while he was in California. Schools? He doesn't care about schools in California. He wanted to get his shot of fame on the Leno show!
I really took offense to the comment about how Cheney and Rumsfeld arent in jail or awaiting execution for murdering us troops and causing this mess? Are you kidding me??!!
I lost my husband along with so many friends in Iraq, and I look at my friends' husbands who lost legs, arms and can no longer serve in the military. If anyone would be upset about losing things it would be us, yet I have never ever heard anyone of us putting down our comander in Chief, or our Secretary of Defense! We all knew what we were signing up for when we joined the military and for some liberal hippies to stand there and say my husband and friends were murdered? It stings my heart and makes me very irate! My HUSBAND DIED fighting for what he believed in and was doing his job. He did this proudly so that liberal hippies could sit at home with arms around trees and begging the new president for more money in their welfare checks or money from the president because they were not educated enough to run a successful business and need to be bailed out!
So stop your whinning... you wanted a hippie president, now you got it for however long he lasts in office!!
Just STOP putting shame on our military and our former leaders!! JUST STOP!!

Just curious why President Obama didn't choose to come to Sacramento, it is the states capital, where the bulk of our state workers and law makers reside, and where much of the economic crunch is being felt.

Just curious why President Obama didn't choose to come to Sacramento, it is the states capital, where the bulk of our state workers and law makers reside, and where much of the economic crunch is being felt. It is where the buisness of repairing our economy is occuring in the state, not in hollywood talking to a less than current talk show host.

Sad Republican, perhaps you didn't see today's reports confirming that your beloved president Bush and his sidekick Dick imprisoned numerous innocent people at Guantanamo, where they continue to remain in prison 6 or 7 years after the fact. I appreciate the pain you feel for the loss of your husband, but you do not appreciate the pain felt by those innocents and their families, whose loved ones have been forever scarred by the torture they endured. No, this is not about the guilty at Guantanamo. They should be prosecuted and punished appropriately. This is about the innocents there. This is not what this country is about. The only people who have shamed the past administration and the military is the past administration.

Wow...a politician who wants to get out of the DC echo chamber, meet real people, listen to our concerns and give us a chance to speak our minds.

Yes, the horror. I am outraged. Doesn't Obama know that the people are to be ruled, not listened to?

/sarcasm off

My name is Lucia and I am originally from Colombia but I consider myslef to be a Colombian/American. I am here legally. My husband is Mexican/American. We are legally here and we vote. Today I took offense at all those people who were protesting outside a school that President visited. They want immigration reform. They oviously are here illegally. What we noticed today with the President's visit, is that he really didn't give full details of how he is going to help and make sure that all those homeowners who are having difficulties making their mortgage payments not lose their home. Also we noticed that Antonio Villaraigosa was there just for publicity standing next to the President and the Governor. He is doing this because he wants to be Governor. Plus the event took place at a school called Miguel Contreras in Downtown L.A people should know that the school was named after a union organizer and that the widow of the man is good friends with the Mayor. This was a union orchestrated move all for publicity...

I think all the people out there who actually think Bush the killer of all killers did a great job with this nation are morons. Not only did Bush mastermind 911 with Cheney he created this war we are in.So all you idiots out there crying about Obama being on Leno need to wake up and smell the change in the air. For God sake give the man a CHANCE!!! Trust me he is not Bush. So lay off. Obama is a great man.

I feel that people are whining about the economy and have forgotten WHO got us there.I'm talking about a person that for eight long agonizing years screwed up everything; and now people are expecting a new president that I'm pretty sure is going to do a great job just like Bill Clinton;is suppost to fix everything in just three months.Get real people give Barack Obama a fair chance.Eight years of screw ups is probably going to take at least four to six years to clean up; unless the president is God and does a miracle with the snap of a finger; it's going to take some time, patience, and some faith in our president. He's not God, but we can ask God for guiding him in making good judgement.there is a big difference between Barack Obama and George W. Bush. Barack Obama Has Not only a conscious but morals and values.God be with him because he has a long hard road ahead of him and a whole lot of imbecils who just dont understand.

I was having a track meet today and after the pole vault, a few fancy choppers flew over my school. They weren't exactly like the national guard ones, they were blue, wonder if that was Obama.

And somehow the thirty million dollars in the "stimulus package" for a swamp rat in California (that's feeling that crunch real, super hard) will help out that beautiful, beautiful state?

Really, people?

The stimulus gave 1.3 billion to Amtrak and Amtrak hasn't turned a profit in, oh yeah, THIRTY THREE YEARS. That could pay for struggling college students' tuition, which would actually do some economy-stimulating.
