Briefing Schedule

2:45PM Briefing by Press Secretary Robert Gibbs

I live in a very small town Mecosta Michigan
Our area is vacation land. Lots of lakefront, vacation and retirement for many of the GM employee. Because of that its second homes for many. For many years it provided a living for Contractors/ plumbers/ electrion/ and realtors.
The stores in the area make most of our money thur the spring & summer and fall season. I am seeing our little town become a gost town. Stores, resturants, bars.
I own a store.
We all lost money on year becasue of a the State redoing the road in front of our business. That took alot out of us. Then comes the gas prices
at $4.00 a gal causing alot of people to stay home. If they did come up shopping or going out to dinner was not in the cards. Now comes the ression. I can't catch a break to even think about getting back on my feet. My husband is a contractor and building has come to a crawl. Our stocks for retirement is gone down. We use to be able to feed the store with extra funds from our stocks now and then . That has come to a stop.
After 5 years of one thing after another I am becoming scared that at the age of 57 seeing everthing we have worked for go down the drain.
I need help as a small businees owner. As others do in our area. I Have even thought about letting the Bank have the store back. It makes me sick all my life I have been able to find someway to find a way to make things work. I am at a point of giving up
what Now !!!

It really is about time that we paid attention the small business - our only real hope of getting out of the logjam that we find ourselves in.

The simplest way to stimulate the economy is to give small businesses direct reductions in payroll tax and health care costs. These two items are the most important reasons why small business employers let go of their employees and as we all know about 3 out every 4 jobs in our economy are generated by small business owners.
