Why closed door conference committee for stimulus bill?

Sean Quinn over at www.fivethirtyeight.com picked up on an exchange reporters (one being me) had with Robert Gibbs on Wednesday over the closed door conference committee for the stimulus bill.

The massive economic stimulus bill is headed for a House-Senate conference after the Senate passed it Tuesday with support from three Republicans. The conference will not be easy. The Senate took the House bill, added tax cuts, cut spending and overall increased the cost. And those three Republicans are holding most of the cards.
