Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan gets ball rolling to remove Burris

WASHINGTON--Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan on Thursday took some initial steps that could result in the Illinois General Assembly bouncing embattled Sen. Roland Burris (D-Ill.) from office by cutting his term short and calling for a special election.
Key to the legal reasoning, issued Wednesday night in the form of an official opinion, is considering Burris' appointment by ousted Gov. Blagojevich as temporary.

Release from Madigan.....

As the General Assembly considers bills to address the process for filling a vacancy in the U.S. Senate, the Attorney General has received inquiries specifically asking whether the legislature can constitutionally pass a law that changes the date of the next election for the U.S. Senate.

The Attorney General is releasing the following statement:
"It is my opinion that the legislature may pass a law allowing the people of Illinois to elect a U.S. senator to fill the seat vacated by President Barack Obama. Such a law would be consistent with the U.S. Constitution. The 17th Amendment expresses a clear preference for having the people of a state elect their U.S. senators. In keeping with the purpose of this amendment, the legislature may constitutionally change the current law to set an earlier date for the election to this U.S. senate seat. I am providing this opinion to offer guidance to the legislature as they consider this issue."

While Burris should quietly exit the stage, now that his mausoleum is complete, Lisa Madigan is the lawyer who argued to her state's supreme court that Blagojevich should be prohibited from acting because he had been arrested and was therefore incapable of performing as governor. As we saw, Blagojevich was capable -- of appointing Burris. And Madigan's legal arguments were laughable.

In any event, I would trust the legal opinion of a first year law student more than I would an opinion from the AG's office run by Lisa Madigan. Sorry, but it's true. She's turned her office into a political hackery.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, madam attorney general. It's about time that someone with courage and vision spoke on behalf of the people of Illinois. Burris is an embarrassment to the people of our state, as well as to all those who espouse to the principles of integrity and honesty vis-a-vis their commitment to public service. Each day it becomes more obvious that this appointment has become a forum for Mr. Burris' ego. The people of Illinois, and, indeed peopld in any free and democratic society, deserve
stewards who put their constituency before themselves. Mr. Burris has demonstrated that he is not able to do so.

With former reverend role models burrising in for the long haul, we really see the pandemic nature of politicians who often appear guilty before appearing innocent. Whether they'll heed President Obama's call to be tranparent pragmatically could take years considering the nature of regional politics. Rather than celebrating how far America has come in so short it's history to a 20% minority President, woman Speaker and Secretary, too many continue to promulgate the polarization of being ethnic-Americans and promoting ethnicity at the expense of American-ethnics marches on. The new Attorney General need to open the investigation windows wide.

Please get started. We can find the money or ask for donations to be placed in a fund for "excellence in gov." toward the special election!

"Praise the Lord, and pass the ammunition"! This is encouraging news, and I hope that it's successful...

Slow down Lisa...you're moving too fast. The sun will come out tomorrow, if there aren't any clouds!!!!

we counted our silverware."

So it looks like good old Roland will be getting another pension. More money down the tubes for another useless legislator.

Hurrah Hurrah. What a hypocrite. Why not make a law limiting her daddy's control over the legislature and while she is at make sure she does not run for governor.

Just heard the news this evening - I am as mad as I possibly can be at the Black Voice in chicago THREATENING politicians that if they don't back off on Burris, they will regret it come the next elections.

1. Burris was not elected - we still don't know the facts on how he was appointed but there is far too much controversy over it to be a good thing.

2. They can celebrate only when the PEOPLE vote a black US senator into office - I don't understand why they think this whole controversy is to their advantage, it actually makes them look worse.

3. None of this is about his color and they should stop being such racists. I am wondering when anyone in the media will finally stand up to the race card and make it clear that they are the racists.

4. All of the politicians have forgotten that it is the voice of the people of Illinois that count and that should be voting.

Just tired of all this political nonsense.

The Legislature of Illinois should leave Burris alone. A special election after the man is seated is illegal and expensive. Roland Burris should retain the seat until 2011. I would then say the Illinois Democractic leaders can decide who will run for the seat. The cost of an election is $40,000,000 dollars, and the state does not have the money.Quinn and Madigan should run the state, and leave this thirty year public servant alone.

TIME TO GET THE BALL ROLLING TO TOSS LISA MADIGAN OUT ON HER LITTLE WHITE FANNY! ILLINOIS CAN'T AFFORD LISA MADIGAN AND HER FAILED PROGRAMS FOR WOMEN ONLY. LISA MADIGAN'S FATHER IS THE MOST CORRUPT POLITICIAN IN ILLINOIS HISTORY! THE WHOLE NATION LAUGHS AT THIS BROKE STATE'S CORRUPTION! SHE IS PART OF ACORN PROLLY CHEATS IN ELECTIONS TOO! LISA MADIGAN IS A CLEPTOCRAT, FEMI NAZI THAT HATES MEN! SHE IS A LESBIAN! SHE NEEDS TO LEAVE THE POOR AND DISABLED MEN IN SOUTHERN ILLINOIS ALONE!! LISA MADIGAN IS GOING TO RUN THIS BROKE STATE INTO THE GROUND!! WE DON'T NEED HER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Illinois, Lisa Madigan should have her little white fanny kicked to the curb with Burris! LISA MADIGAN NEEDS TO GO! WE DON'T HER IN OUR BROKE, FAILING STATE!
