FEINGOLD TO INTRODUCE CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT ENDING GUBERNATORIAL APPOINTMENTS TO SENATE VACANCIES

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senator Russ Feingold, Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, issued the following statement today on plans to introduce an amendment to the U.S. Constitution to end appointments to the Senate by state governors and require special elections in the event of a Senate seat vacancy.

"The controversies surrounding some of the recent gubernatorial appointments to vacant Senate seats make it painfully clear that such appointments are an anachronism that must end. In 1913, the Seventeenth Amendment to the Constitution gave the citizens of this country the power to finally elect their senators. They should have the same power in the case of unexpected mid term vacancies, so that the Senate is as responsive as possible to the will of the people. I plan to introduce a constitutional amendment this week to require special elections when a Senate seat is vacant, as the Constitution mandates for the House, and as my own state of Wisconsin already requires by statute. As the Chairman of the Constitution Subcommittee, I will hold a hearing on this important topic soon."

Blagojevich 'controversy' is a tempest in a teapot bent upon punishing him for perhaps the ONE good thing the guy ever did in office: HE TOOK ON BANK OF AMERICA, FINANCIER OF THE VIETNAM HOLOCAUST CAUSED BY DEMOCRATS CONTROLLED BY THE INDUSTRIAL MILITARY COMPLEX. Blago told them, that, given the bailout, if they did not do right by the glass factory workers, he would get all state business moved OUT of their bank. He was arrested within hours, DESPITE A LACK OF AN INDICTMENT! LOOK--CONSTITUTIONAL LAW SHOULD WORK FOR THE WORST OF OFFENDERS OR IT WORKS FOR NO-ONE.

If the Feds require an election, let the Feds pay for it.

THE NATION IS BROKE AND THIS GUY WANTS US TO PAY
FOR AN ELECTION, AMERICA HAS MORE IMPORTANT THINGS
ON HER PLATE THAN LISTENING TO THIS NONSENSE!
MAYBE THAT GUY WHO SPENT 87,000 DOLLARS ON THAT
RUG CAN CHIP IN AND HELP PAY FOR THESE ELECTIONS!
MAYBE THE GUY WHO GAVE OUT 4 MILLION IN BONUSES
CAN PAY FOR THESE ELECTIONS!
MAYBE BERNIE MADOFF CAN HOCK SOME OF HIS JEWELRY
AND PAY FOR THESE ELECTIONS, NOW YOU UNDERSTAND
THAT THESE ELECTIONS AREN'T THAT IMPORTANT!
WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE!
PEOPLE ARE LOSING THEIR JOBS AND HOMES, THIS
SHOULD BE THE PRIORITY, NOT WHAT FRIEND YOU WANT
AS A SENATOR!
