GOVERNOR ROB BLAGOJEVICH TELLS FOX NEWS CHANNEL THIS HAS BEEN 'AN UNIMAGINABLE SHOCKING TURN OF EVENTS' IN HIS LIFE

Governor Rob Blagojevich spoke with FOX News Channel's Geraldo Rivera today about the accusations against him, his impeachment trial and the effect that this has had on his life.

On the impact this has had on his life:

"This has been an unimaginable shocking turn of events in my life and my family's life."

"There are tens of thousands of Americans who are losing their jobs as we speak so I'm not the only one and I'm not going to sit here and start whining about my fate. I'll pick myself up and figure out a way to make a living and a good living for my family."

On wanting Rahm Emanuel to testify:

"It isn't just Rahm Emanuel. It's a whole series of witnesses. It's also all of the tapes and any of the witnesses that they think would say I did something wrong. We would love for them to be in Springfield to begin this process now. So I can clear my name."

On if he was trying to get money for filling the seat:

"Absolutely not. Absolutely not."

On who Rahm Emmanuel wanted to fill Obama's Senate seat:

"Those are private conversations."

On his conversations with Congressman Jackson:

"My conversations with Congressman Jackson were appropriate, his with me and mine with his, and I like him to be able to go to Springfield and testify under oath and let him tell his version of it which I believe would be consistent with mine."

On the impeachment trial:

"It's a kangaroo court. When they are basing an impeachment on a criminal allegation, that their rules don't allow them to prove up, and, even worse than that don't allow me to disprove by preventing me from calling witnesses, then my lawyers and I believe, that we be part of a process like that is to dignify, a fraudulent impeachment process that sets a dangerous precedent for governors in Illinois and governors across America."

"If they are going to say I did something wrong, the least they should do is prove it up, and unfortunately the rules don't allow for either one of those things to happen."

On the tapes that suggest he was trying to sell the seat:

"You take snippets of conversation out of their proper context, there's embarrassment there obviously, in private conversations. I would like every one of those tapes to be presents to Illinois State Senate, every one of them. And let them hear every one of those conversations to see where those conversations were, what they were, where they were going, and where they ended up."

On if he wants President Obama to speak out on his behalf:

"Anybody who wants to say something nice about me would be kind of nice because there hasn't been a lot that has been said that has been nice about me."

I'm disgusted by Geraldo Rivera's slimy defense of Rod Blagojevich,the cartoon personification of political corruption. That crooked Illinois governor ought to be wearing prison stripes, not spewing his garbage into a Fox news mike.His ME FIRST mentality is the kind that hasour nation drowning in depression, thousands jobless, and a carnival barker running the nation on the energy of false hopes andhollow promises.
Send Geraldo off to San Francisco to marry Blago, so the two can live happily everafter. Tell them both, though, to stay then hell off mt t v screen. Cockroaches not welcome here. The Castro would just LOVE their anus-first morality.

I don't like that Blagojevich's comments to Geraldo are being taken out of context. Geraldo isn't defending Blagojevich..... he is defending Constitutional rights over a kangaroo court full of crooks and misdirecting motive at the same time. For those of you that don't know why Blagojevich is being persecuted, it is because on December 8th, Blagojevich said that a lawsuit would be filed against Bank of America and the State of Illinois would boycott Bank of America for not complying to the "bailout rules" and inferring the whole thing was a fraud.

He was arrested the next morning at 6 AM on charges "for selling a senate seat" which hadn't even been assigned. Not a person in the media or Blagojevich himself has brought it up since. Geraldo tried to misdirect the motive to Big Pharma. The truth is that Wall Street is behind this....just like Governor Spitzer who was removed the day before Bear Sterns filed bankruptcy which Spiter was waiting toi file charges against when they did. I hope the truth comes out for once.

Please Geraldo Rivera. You need to stay in New York. what do you know about the garbage Mr Blogo has told you. Unfair trial I dont think so he could of been there trying to defend himself. When they made these rules for impeachment he could of said no to them. He didnt think it was wrong then but now our baby Govener does'nt like it. I voted for hin the first time but not the second because he was know for being crooked. All he's doing for our state is making us look like we are all crazy. All he's doing is trying to talk to his jury pool. Poor Govener. I dont feel sorry for him at all. He is a crook along with his wife. He tryed to shake down a CHILDRENS HOSPITAL...It on a wire tap.The person who taped it was on tv and said she had to go to the Feds with it. Does that bother Geraldo.... Well stay out of Illinois business because you just keep on pulling out your kleenex for Mr Blogo. We in Illinois will be happy at the end of the week. We should have a new Govener

Wow. Now I realize: some Democratic Party officials apparently are in bed with a corrupt Repugnican prosecutor to go after a man it APPEARS might have some ethical and possibly criminal problems--but, why's THIS guy prosecuted before:
Gonzales;
Cheney;
Bush I (Iran Contra documents hidden by Bush II after the WTC was imploded and blamed on the CIA operative bin Laden);
Wolfowitz;
Rumsfeld (for above with Wolfie and for WMD LIES);
Rice;
Bush II (all the above--and for allowing torture on our shores and kidnapping of Americans and others to tortore offshore).
GOVERNMENT SPYING IS THE ISSUE--WRITE OFF FOR YOUR FOIA FILE!!!

Geraldo:
Had you done 2 minutes of research you would have understood what Gov Blago is accused.
He has not only been accused of trying to sell then Senator Barack Obama's seat.
Federal eavesdropping will be heard today in which Blago is heard saying that he will treat the horse racing industry favorably in exchange for campaign contribution from executives of the horse racing industry.
The U.S.Attorney has alleged that he held-up funding for a children's hospital for state fund in exchange for campaign contributions.
His former Chief of staff is presently turning state's witness against the Gov.
Once again the "vault was empty" in your reporting!

NO FREEDOM OF SPEECH ON THIS IF ''IT HAS TO BE APPROVED ' BUT HERE I GO---I HOPE BLAGO GETS HIS WAY---I THINK PEOPLE ARE CONCERNED HE WILL BRING PEOPLE DOWN IF HE GETS TO SHARE HIS SIDE. JUST SAYING.
IF THEY DON'T ALLOW THAT I HOPE HE GOES ON ALL THE FOX CHANNELS AND TELLS ALL. FOX NEWS, NOT CNN/HLN TRASH T.V. THEY ARE TOO UNFAIE---BUT THEN AGAIN GERALDO SHOULD CHANGE TO THAT STATION HISELF---HE DOES NOT HAVE THE CLASS TO BE ON FOX,.

Geraldo and Rod ought to step in the ring together for a pay-per-view boxing event. After that, Rod can hit the wrestling circuit, with Patti as his manager.

I'm sure he'll get a TV deal out of all of this somehow, something like "Ask the Guv", where he pontificates about everything.

DON'T FORGET GERALDO LOVES CHICAGO, REMEMBER
AL CAPONE'S VAULT, GERALDO MADE A KILLING FINDING
SOME GIN BOTTLES BACK IN THE DAY, HE HAD ME
CURIOUS THOUGH, SO THE GOV AND GERALDO HAVE
SOMETHING IN COMMON, ONE IS STRETCHING THE TRUTH
AND OTHER ONE IS HYPING THE SITUATION!
THEY BOTH ARE ATTORNEYS, BUT ONE IS GOING TO THE
BIG HOUSE, THE CRIMINAL TRIAL IS GOING TO GET
UGLY!
THE GOV SHOULD HAVE RESIGNED, BECAUSE HE IS TOAST
EITHER THIS WEEK OR NEXT!

I find it amazing that someone here actually believed that Blagojevich is being "persecuted." I find it equally amazing that another believes that Blagojevich shouldn't be prosecuted because other crooked politicians haven't been prosecuted. That argument is ridiculous! The next time they get a traffic ticket, they should try telling the judge that they shouldn't be found guilty "because other people do it to." With that logic, we have no law or justice at all.

As for Geraldo Rivera: It's odd that a lawyer can be so wrong. He was practically foaming at the mouth when he defended Blagojevich on Fox the other day and he got into is "cross examination" mode. What a pompous and arrogant demonstration it was for a man you hasn't practices law in decades. Geraldo claims that the impeachment trial is a kangaroo court (repeating Blago's own phrase) because it didn't prove the criminal charges that are forthcoming against Blago. Geraldo also said, "Only the people of Illinois have the right to remove Blagojevich from office." Rivera clearly doesn't understand that the impeachment doesn't have to prove any of the charges in the criminal matter. They are two totally different things. A public official can be impeached simply because he has lost the faith of the people he serves and is considered unfit for public office. Secondly, there is no provision for the "people of Illinois" to remove Blago from office directly short of at the next election. That is what impeachment is for. Geraldo seems to be under the impression (as does Blago) that the people of Illinois support Blago but nothing could be further from the truth, of course.

I don't know who is more obnoxious - Blagojevich or Rivera.

As a resident of Illinois, I think its laughable how different the national media is treating this than the local media.

The national media does not get it.

If you had a 6 percent approval rating at ANY job, youd be fired. The Governors employers want him fired, and any senator who votes NOT to remove him today will be fired by the people as well.

Blago said that all decisions in his administration had to be first wieghed against how it affected his legal situation, his personal sitiuation and then his political situation. In that order. In other words, its all about him. That is the definition of corruption, and as an admittedly corrupt official, he cant govern the state.

He also recently said that the legislature isnt important because most of them come from places that arent near where people live. There are lots of problems with this statement for downstate voters, but this just again shows he has no common sense.

Again in any job if you continually show you have no common sense, you will be fired.

Furthermore, if any high ranking employee of any company was accused of this degree of misconduct, hed be removed from his position. This is all that is happening today.

How this all ties in with Geraldo's comments is this: He isnt being found guilty of anything, hes being fired. This is not a court of law. Like it or not, any impeachment proceeding really comes down to what the voters want and will retaliate against. He will not be railroaded in court, and his witnessess will testify. He *is* being railroaded, but Geraldo's anger is misplaced, as that is why this process exists in the first place.

Blagojevich's speech today is intended to accomplish two things, in my opinion: First, it is a continuation of his efforts to generate public sympathy for him. I believe that he hopes to influence future jurors in the criminal case that will be forthcoming. Secondly, he is hoping to force federal prosecutors to tip their hands in their case against him. That's not going to happen and he knows that prosecutors are not allowing more evidence that they have gathered to be used in the impeachment hearings. Blagojevich is claiming that he is being treated unfairly after refusing to appear with a proper defense until the end of the impeachment hearings so that he couldn't be questioned about his actions.

Impeachment is not a legal proceeding in the sense that a criminal prosecution is. It is a purely political process but Blagojevich is trying to convince the public that it is an unconstitutional legal proceeding in which he is being treated unfairly. He is arguing that he should have the same rights as someone who is being charged with a criminal offense. That argument may fool some of the public but, hopefully, it will not sway anyone voting on his impeachment. He will have his day in court and he will be able to present all the evidence that he has in the criminal case.

The people of Illinois have lost faith in Blagojevich's ability to serve them and impeachment is proper political process to remove him from office.
