Editors/Reporters:

Last night House Speaker Mike Madigan refused to strip Rod Blagojevich of his appointment powers even though 2/3 of Illinois voters overwhelmingly support a special election.

If Democrats, who vocally supported the idea of a special election, don't strip Blagojevich of his appointment and give a vote to the people voters will hold them accountable.

We clearly support impeachment, but that process could take weeks, even months.

Rod Blagojevich's appointment powers must be stripped immediately and the people must be given an opportunity to vote. Democrats like Mike Madigan (who leads the House) and Emil Jones (who leads the Senate) are particularly vulnerable since they were the co-chairmen of Rod Blagojevich's re-election campaign in 2006, even though they knew Rod Blagojevich was under a multitude of federal and state investigations.

Any suggestion that Democrats who endorsed or supported Governor Blagojevich did not know about these investigations is complete fiction - it was widely reported.

Democrats hold every major office in Illinois and I only need to point you to the right track/wrong track number within our survey for you to understand the deep level of dissatisfaction with the direction of Illinois government.

Illinois Voters Want Rod Blagojevich Stripped of His Appointment Powers
Overwhelming Support for a Special Election

The survey results clearly show that Illinois voters are very dissatisfied with Rod Blagojevich and the Democrat leadership. The voters want Rod Blagojevich stripped of his appointment powers so he can't pick the next US Senator. Instead, the voters are calling for a special election to fill Barack Obama's US Senate seat. If the Democrats don't strip Rod Blagojevich's appointment powers, the voters would be outraged. Democrats endorsed Rod Blagojevich's re-election in 2006 despite him being under investigation and the numbers clearly show that the Democrats will pay a high price.

Illinois voters are sending a strong message to Democrats who control every level of state government. An overwhelming majority (79%) believes things in Illinois are headed off on the wrong track. Only 14% thinks things are going in the right direction. This very strong negative sentiment cuts across party lines.

Regardless of party affiliation, most Illinois voters (88%) have an unfavorable opinion of Rod Blagojevich. Only 8% has a favorable opinion of him.

Two-thirds (66%) of the electorate favors the state legislature passing a new law requiring a special election to fill Barack Obama's unexpired term as US Senator rather than letting the Governor pick the next US Senator. Only 26% oppose a special election. This large majority support for a special election is strongest among Republicans (74%) but is also strong among Democrats (64%) and Independents (65%). In the collar counties and downstate, the support for a special election is huge (71% and 70% respectively).

70% of voters would be less likely to vote for a candidate for office in Illinois who supported or endorsed Rod Blagojevich's re-lection for Governor in 2006 even though he was already under investigation for 3-years. The "less likely to vote" result is strongest among Republicans (82%) but is also strong among Democrats (66%), Independents (66%), and voters in Cook County (65%), City of Chicago (65%) and the collar counties (76%). Clearly, Democrats who are tied to Blagojevich are vulnerable.

Methodology: This Illinois statewide survey of 600 likely voters was conducted on December 15, 2008 by McLaughlin & Associates.
All interviews were conducted by professional interviewers via telephone. Interview selection was at random within predetermined geographic units. These units were structured to statistically correlate with actual general election turnout.
The accuracy of the sample of 600 likely voters is within +/- 4.0% at a 95% confidence interval. Below is verbatim wording of the questions.

Would you say things in Illinois are headed in the right direction, or would you say things are headed off on the wrong track?

If a candidate for office in Illinois supported or endorsed Rod Blagojevich's re-election for Governor in 2006 even though he was already under investigation for 3 years, would that make you more or less likely to vote for that candidate? If it would make no difference, just say so.

MAN!
THOSE ADS COST BIG MONEY, WHY DON'T YOU HELP A

YES - we really need a special election costing more than $30 mil so we can elect another Chicago pol to the Senate...Elections can be bought too--

Just ask Daffy Duck who he contributed to in the presidential race!

How long has the provision for the Governor been the one to appoint a Senate vacancy and the GOP never cared.?

Perhaps the Mr. Obama group has had its foot in the mud long enouyugh. It's time to dump who ever we have to dump and get on with it. Other wise this will start getting like a TAR BABY. People may think Brer Rabbit may be racist, but it is a book of wise stories. Obama might oughta pay it some heed. Oh well, Democrats aren't that smart because of their own racim.

A special election would be great, but let's face it, if the shoe was on the other foot, no way would the IL GOP open up the process. They don't even allow fair and open elections inside their own state party.

Also, as much as I didn't like it, the Dems did win this seat for 6 years back in 2004. If Andy McKenna's buddies in the IL GOP hadn't worked so destructively against the seat's prior occupant Peter Fitzgerald, we wouldn't be in this situation to begin with.

Idopn't play de party line so I is not appreciated . I've written once in 2 weeks and that was too much. Well, I must be hitting the hammer where de money pot was.

Yes. Let's just forego the trial. Why not just send him to Gitmo and waterboard him. Appoint the new czar and czarina of Illinois with the Madigan name. What could go wrong?
Say--anyone found that missing 100 billion for the really rich crooks not being monitored 24/7?
Was that conversation where Lisa Madigan's voice appeared taped in their KITCHEN?
Say--anyone found the 3 trillion we've spent on this oil exploration adventurism?
So many questions. So let's ignore them and attend a PRESS CONFERENCE held by a tainted party. Patrick Fitzgerald failed to pursue Karl Rove in the most important investigation next to the tobacco corporate malfeasance trial.
Can we please have a variety of news?
Stuff that matters and is, well, REAL?

It is time for Emil Jones to be named as the United States Senator from Ilinois. He is President-elect Obama's political Godfather, an afro-american, and would not run for the seat in two years.
He would be the perfect interim Senator and would work well with President Obama and bring resources back to illinois.

NO DOE FOR THIS SHOW!
THE PEOPLE DOWNSTATE IN ILLINOIS SHOULD ALSO AMEND
A LAW SO THEY CAN CHOOSE A REPLACEMENT FOR THE
PRESIDENT-ELECT, THERE IS NO MONEY FOR A SPECIAL
ELECTION!
REMEMBER THERE WILL BE A REAL ELECTION IN 2010!
THE ARENA FOOTBALL LEAGUE JUST WENT OUT OF
BUSINESS FOR A YEAR, SO THIS SPECIAL ELECTION IS
NOT WARRANTED!
DON'T USE THE GOV'S BLUNDER FOR AN EXCUSE TO HAVE
A SPECIAL ELECTION!
YOU CAN FOOL SOME OF THE PEOPLE SOME OF THE TIME
BUT YOU CAN'T FOOL SOME OF THE PEOPLE ALL OF THE
TIME!
STOP ACTING LIKE FOX NEWS, DON'T ACT LIKE SEAN
HANNITY, THE GOP IS UP TO NO GOOD!

THIS IS WHY THE GOV NEEDS SOME TIME OFF FROM DUTY
HE STARTED THIS CRAP BECAUSE HE FLAPPED HIS JAWS!
HE IS GREEDY AND CRYING BROKE, RUNNING IN THE
COLD, HE IS A CANDIDATE FOR THE MENTAL WARD AT
STROGER HOSPITAL!
KEEP YOUR EYE ON NEW YORK, THEY HAVE A CLUE, THEY
HAVE TO REPLACE HILLARY CLINTON WITH A NEW
SENATOR, KEEP YOUR EYE ON GOVERNOR PATTERSON, HE
HAS A CLUE, I WISH OUR GOV HAD A CLUE!
OUR GOV NEEDS A VACATION, A PERMANENT VACATION!
TO THE GOP, YOU CAN'T WIN IN 2010 EITHER!
RUN YOUR CRAPPY ADS, WE WON'T FORGET YOU IN 2010!
