Statement from Attorney General Lisa Madigan
With today's action, Governor Blagojevich, once again, fails to recognize his complete lack of credibility. This further demonstrates his inability to put the best interests of the People of Illinois first.
The United States Attorney has charged the Governor in a felony criminal complaint with what Mr. Fitzgerald called a "political corruption crime spree" that included attempting to sell the U.S. Senate seat to the highest bidder. Because of those corruption charges, the leadership of the United States Senate has repeatedly stated that they will not seat anyone appointed by Governor Blagojevich.
By refusing to resign and attempting to make this appointment, the Governor leaves Illinois in terrible situation. As I have said since his arrest, I believe the Governor should resign immediately.

NOW ROLAND BURRIS IS A TAINTED FIGURE IN ILLINOIS
POLITICS, TO ACCEPT A JOB FROM A PERSON UNDER
INVESTIGATION LOOKS BAD, SO ROLAND BURRIS STOP
LOOKING BAD AND TAKE YOUR NAME OFF THE BOARD!
YOU WEREN'T EVEN THE FIRST CHOICE FOR THE JOB!
SHOW SOME CHARACTER AND REMOVE YOUR NAME BEFORE
YOU END UP BEING THE LAUGHING STOCK OF ILLINOIS!
What"taint" is there around Mr. Burris, SHOUTING PHIL?
Where do you get this stuff?
Ever since the beginning of the allegations against our Governor by the U.S. Attorney, I have seen nothing substantial/nothing the is clear as to charges brought against Rod by the growing supporters of the u.s. attorney's allegations. Why can't the allegations be more revealled: if somone was offered the senate seat, how much was the asking price? What was said before and after the 15 second snipetts that was broadcasts over the airways three weeks ago this past tuesday?
c'mon, lets be fair and clear before castigating the appointer!
I love the smile on Roland Burris that says "The laugh is on the folks of Illinois! You voted me down 5 times but I found another way to get the brass ring - the senate seat, my power, and my lifetime pension you all have to pay for! The laugh is on you!!" And I love that huge, gorgeous monument (waiting for him at his cemetery plot) listing all his achievements as a black person. I regret that our government promotes and protects such imbecilic behavior. "Legal" and "moral" are clearly not the same thing.
