My Chicago Sun-Times colleague Abdon Pallasch quotes President-elect Obama saying the Chicago reporters are tougher than the national press, as ABC-channel 7 political reporter Andy Shaw gets a question in the brief photo op.

CHICAGO--Just 13 days after the election and a month after their last face-to-face debate, President-elect Barack Obama and Sen. John McCain sat down to talk Monday at Obama's Transition headquarters in Chicago.

Off to McCain's right was his close ally, Sen. Lindsey Graham R-S.C. Off to Obama's left was his newly announced chief of staff, Rep. Rahm Emanuel (D-Ill.)

"The national press is tame compared to the local press," Obama leaned over to McCain and quipped as the press filed in for a 90-second photo shoot.

The four men sat in front of a blue curtain with three flags behind them and four glasses of water laid out for them on a coffee table in front of them.

Asked what they planned to talk about, Obama said, "We're just going to have a good conversation about how we can do some work together to fix up the country, and also offer thanks to Sen. McCain for the outstanding service he has already rendered."

Obama's aides started trying to clear the press out, reminding them there were not supposed to be questions.

That did not stop ABC-7 political reporter Andy Shaw from asking McCain if he planned to work with Obama to help him get things done.

Even as the aides shouted louder not to ask questions, McCain said, "Obviously."
Obama smiled and told the reporters still asking questions they were "incorrigible." Then he proceeded to lean over to McCain and tell him a campaign-trail story about one of his aides.

The meeting was on the 38th floor of the Kluczynski federal building, where Obama also has his senate office. The South windows look over the open-air top floor of the Metropolitan Correctional Center.

This is one of the earlier meetings between presidential rivals.
President George W. Bush had a White House meeting with President Bill Clinton and Vice President Al Gore on Dec. 19, 2000, about six days after Gore conceded the race.
Presdient George H.W. Bush met former Massachusetts Gov. Michael Dukakis on Dec. 2, 1988, in Washington, D.C.

On Nov 18, 1980, President Jimmy Carter had Ronald Reagan over to the oval office for 90-minute chat.

WE HAVE MORE TO DO:

Democrat Jim Martin is in a runoff against Bush Republican Saxby Chambliss for the Senate seat from Georgia. Bush's Saxby Chambliss voted against spending a few measly dollars to provide health care coverage for Georgia, and Americas needy children. But he supported wasting hundreds of billions of your dollars, and the life BLOOD of Americas finest on an unnecessary war in Iraq.

At a time when 47 million of you have no health insurance coverage, and over 100 million of you with insurance are just one major illness away from complete financial destruction. Bush and Saxby Chambliss voted to make the heart break of bankruptcy relief even harder for all of you to use.

You see, Bush and Saxby Chambliss, and his family don't have to worry about their health care coverage. They have the finest health care coverage your tax money can buy for them. Courtesy of you. The American Tax payer. In fact, no one but the super rich can afford the health care coverage you the tax payer provide for Saxby Chambliss, and his family for FREE! with your tax dollars.

He supposedly works for you. But he doesn't think you and your family should have access to the type of taxpayer supported FREE health care that you provide for him, and his loved ones for FREE!. Doesn't that just make you BURRING MAD!

Vote for JIM MARTIN for US senator from Georgia. Vote for JIM Martin who will be on your side. Vote for JIM MARTIN who will work with President Obama and a majority congress for you. Vote for JIM MARTIN most of all for your-self, your family's, friends, and loved ones. Vote for JIM MARTIN for a better America, and a better World.

Don't let Saxby Chambliss make a chump out of you by tricking you into voting against your own best interest. Saxby chambliss is NOT! on your side. He's not one of you. He is on George Bush's side. And we all know what a catastrophe the Bush Chambliss administration has been the past 8 years.

Contact all your family and friends and do every thing you can to see to it that JIM MARTIN and GEORGIANS! take that senate seat back for Georgia, and America. No matter where you live in America. This is important to you. President Obama will need all the help, and power you can give him to try and fix this catastrophic mess that the Corrupt Bush Chambliss administration has created.

As I said before you will have to vote in overwhelming numbers to overcome the Bush Chambliss "Let Them Eat Cake" vote fraud machine. Vote early if you can. Then help everyone you can get to the polls and vote for JIM MARTIN. You and your loved ones don't have to be Saxby Chambliss's victims anymore.

I know you will get it done. Just like you did for President Obama.

God bless all of you

jacksmith - WORKING CLASS... :-)

SAXBY CHAMBLISS IS ALL DONE DEC 2ND!
GEORGIA STEP UP AND SEND THIS MAN INTO RETIREMENT!
NICE JOB JACK SMITH!

Jacksmith, how does this have anything to do with the above passage? And why are you doing this? So the republicans and Democrats 'don't' work together? Because if the Republicans lose any more power then this country will lose any chance of having a political medium. However, it won't happen. Obama didn't win Georgia, and the votes that went to Martin had a lot to do with the votes that went to Obama. So, with that in mind, give up on the thought. We aren't losing our filibuster, so yeah...

I'm proud Obama was elected, however, I don't think it would be a good idea for the democrats, or republicans for that matter win total control over the country. It just won't do. It would fuel too many riots from republicans, and you'd see a lot of chaos from people who are sick and tired of losing.

Martin will lose, it's pretty simple, he lost the main reason for the run off (Obama) and now we have a lot of old people who, if I'm correct, vote republican here in Georgia.

Health care would have caused Children to get sick more often, think, the ability to get to a doctor will decrease, some doctors will simply quit, which would cause a lack of qaulified medics. Understand yet?

That coverage would hurt us, as for the war, the war there was wrong, that's true. But it came from false knowledge by the CIA, and those who opposed going would be saying that they would want to be blown to hell. I, personally, don't want to die in a nuclear explosion, and though it has no relevence now, it did then.

He did the right thing at the time, however much you'd like to say he was wrong, hindsight is what we call that. We don't have futuresight, now do we?

WE DON'T POLITICAL MEDIUMS, WE NEED THE ECONOMY
TO GET BACK TO NORMAL, THE GOP HAS BEEN ASLEEP
AT THE SWITCH, SO IT'S TIME FOR THEM TO GET OUT
OF THE WAY SO THE OTHER PARTY CAN GET ER DONE!
YOU GUYS GO HANGOUT WITH JOE I WANT TO BE A
PLUMBER AND PALIN, AND TICO WHAT EVER HE WAS
TRYING TO SAY THE BUILDER, IT IS TIME FOR ACTION
AND PRESIDENT ELECT OBAMA WILL TAKE OFFICE, AND
MAKE THINGS HAPPEN FOR THE BENEFIT OF ALL US IN
AMERICA!
WE DON'T NEED TOWNS TO START VANISHING FROM THE
FACE OF AMERICA, THEY NEED HELP AND WE SHOULD BE
TRYING TO HELP, NOT GIVING UP ON THEM!
IT IS GOING TO BE A LEAN THANKSGIVING AND XMAS,
BUT HELP IS ON THE WAY!
