Sarah Palin says "I was just trying to keep Tina Fey in business"

WASHINGTON--At a Monday rally in the key battleground state of Florida, Sarah Palin made her first comment about how Tina Fey portrayed her for the third time on "Saturnday Night Live," in a spoof about the vice presidential debate.

"I was just trying to keep Tina Fey in business."

Palin said she was providing "job security for SNL characters."

Developing....Palin is repeating her attacks on Obama's connection to Bill Ayers again.....

I don't look to my country's leaders to provide comic relief. I look for exceptional intelligence, substance, honor, and integrity. If Palin had been nominated to be the Republican mascot or poster-child, that would be one thing; but for the party to recommend that this mediocre person represent our country on an international stage is offensive.

i agree with you, laura, 100%. she is a joke. i can't understand why everyone is saying she held her own in the debates. in my opinion her performance came off as ignorant, evasive, and ridiculous. if it had been a man up there acting like that we would be tearing him to shreds.

Americans certainly seem fascinated by Sarah Palin and I admire her sense of humor in the midst of the endless scrutiny, privacy violations, and parodies over the past several weeks. She seems to me to be an exceptional woman of integrity to have faced this opposition but maintained enthusiasm and passion for change, and an unexpected but admirable candidate to potentially break the ultimate glass ceiling.

Well if you are looking for intelligence, substance, honor and integrity then Sarah Palin is the woman you seek. Give the woman a break she was just trying to make light of the fact that the media love to mock her. The poor woman has been repeatedly tarred and feathered by the press. She has a 80% approval rating in Alaska and that is not by accident. Prehaps you should do some independent research of who Sarah Palin really is and stop listening to the garbage and embarrasing outtakes of the liberal media.

The ENTITE world concurs!

The ENTIRE world concurs!

Parodies aside (and I don't watch much TV), if there is any question, legitimate or not, about incest in this woman's family, she shouldn't be running for VP

Re: Laura's comment on 10/6/08-9:58 AM

I also look to my country's leaders for exceptional intelligence, substance, honor, and integrity. However, a leader that also possesses a sense of humor and doesn't take offense when a comedian mimics him/her has my respect and deserves a thumbs up for not allowing anger to take over. Governor Palin is not a mediocre person and is handling herself in a professional manner, with exceptional intelligence, substance, honor and integrity. Apparently her ability to do this is not what some hoped for. Insulting Governor Palin by calling her a mediocre person only shows the level of intelligence of one that would make such a comment, which in my opinion is not very high. Governor Palin holds a successful record of accomplishments. She talks straight and in a manner that one can understand, is honest and sincere in her undertakings.
Good luck and best wishes to Governor Palin!

I get that Palin is trying to relate to the common folk or "joe six pack" as she puts it. We all know she is from Alaska and she has a supply of "you betcha" and other small town buzz words. Rather then addressing SNL and Tina Fey in her sarcastic manner; she should be proving McCain and herself have a plan and name specfics. I am not buying her excuse for a horrible interview. Stick to the issues and tell me if her 72yr old running mate dies, she can lead this great nation. So stop with the local talk, hockey mom and regressing back to your program talking points spoon feed to you. I like to know if she has a backbone.

Tina Fey is too funny when she plays Sara Palin. The looks, the voice. and the mannerisms are just so right on. It's a mystery to me though, that of all the qualified Republicans that would be capable of being President of The United States, John McCain chose her. Personally, I like her but she is way out of her league and has bo business being in the position she is currently in. Big mistake for John McCain.

Your mediocre candidate is who is offensive. Bill Ayers, connection to Black Libertarians, Rev. Wright, unpatriotic,.......far left.....Sarah Palin has more executive experience than Obama and "is" the Washington outsider!!!! You are just upset because she has personality and is relatable. I used to like Obama until I learned more about him. The only person who has ever "truly" fought for us is John McCain. He is the "only" candidate who is "known" to cross party lines and think about "everyone", not just himself and his party. If Obama wins, you will see more devisiveness in this country. He is sooooo far left that it will be harder for him to reach across the aisle. Sarah Palin has a record-LEARN about the positive things she's done for her state & stop believing ALL the negative the liberal media is throwing down our throats. No property taxes, a surplus.......???? Look at Obama's record....look what he's accomplished....PLEASE.....I know I sound BRASH, but I truly don't get why anyone (who doesn't want a hand out) would ever vote for this guy. Take personal responsibility, and get out of your mess. Stop asking the gov't to do everything for you. You think the economy is up a creek now? Just wait to see what will happen if Obama is elected....Nothing is "free"!!!!!

Wow! Intellegent and a sense of humor as sticks and stones are thrown her way! Gov, Commander in Chief of Alaska National Guard and former Mayor with an 80% approval rating can just laugh at the wierd offings of humor, along with the more serious accusations thrown her way. She is just what our country needed and needs. She is very intellegent and fiery and witty and good looking to boot. Everyone tries to make it sound like McCain has one foot in the hole, but I'm not far behind him and fit as a fiddle. Shame on American citizens who make fun of his war wounds. Because of those like him, you are able to make fun. And because you are female and NOT Muslim, you can have your say!! WAKE UP AMERICA, we're on the verge of gloom and doom.

Harry Shearer is behind this Sarah Palin music video "Bridge to Nowhere":

I'm pretty sure winning two Emmys for Best Comedy show is what is keeping Tina Fey in business. Being Sarah Palin on SNL is just a bonus. How does a tv writer make a Vice Presidential candidate completely irrelevant? Only in America.

I believe that Sarah Palin fits this definition of the word buffoon quite well.

1. A clown; a jester: a court buffoon.
2. A person given to clowning and joking.
3. A ludicrous or bumbling person; a fool.
4. A person who amuses others by silly behavior

Response to Laura: Very well said - it is rather unbelievable that Mrs. Palin was the best that the Republican party has to offer as the possible future President of the United States.

There's an absurdity to all this... a surreal aspect. And now, with unsubstantiated false accusations, I am liking Mrs. Palin less and less. She won me with smile and winks. She is losing me with pitbull attack politicking and leaving so many unanswered legitimate questions.

The economy seems dredged in corruption and greed from unbridled deregulation. Those with the most power and wealth have shown their inability to restrain themselves from doing great harm to the economy and destroying the life savings of so many innocent Americans and people abroad.

And our representatives seem entrenched in the muck and mire of pork barrel projects and wasteful spending for friends, family, business associates, collaborators.

It's as if absolute corporate power corrupts absolutely. Without a soul, the corporate entity seems bent on expanding, growing, when there's no nourishment from the soil and toil of everyday working people.

If things don't change, we could be looking at a dark future for all but the very rich who will be able to pay and play while others cry and die.

Not a pretty picture...

no sense of humor, huh?

I smell a lot of hate for this women Palin. Men are calling her a bimbo and women hate her for being stupid and being successful and trying to look Good (I'm a women and we do hate women that are beautiful, which is sad really because she isn't really all that but perception counts).

I smelt a lot of hate for Hilary Clinton too which was sad.

Maybe women shouldn't run for Office in America or the West. Women tend to do better in the developing world anyway, due to a patriarchal system that reveres mothers.

Obviously Palin and Clinton don't deserve the venom thrown at them. If you took the partisan accusations out of the equation both of these women are accomplished women. I checked objectively Palin's past record and you know its impressive. The Democrats want change so for them to change tack and start talking about experience just polarises people on the other side who feel the whole thing reeks of hypocrisy.

What else can explain Mccain’s and Obama’s close race with 'Republican' hatred at such a record low?

As a liberal women married with children I find myself attacked when this women is attacked the language is so hostile, sexist and at times completely untrue that it brings protective element out.

May be that’s why Hilary Clinton is not joining the attacking fray.

In England a couple of year’s ago women from all parties joined together in a rally aimed to encourage more women to join politics. That’s what I like real ‘sisters’.

I would agree with all of Laura's comments with one edit: Palin has been nominated to be the Republican mascot/poster child besides what they are attempting to recommend to this country's voters! It is offensive.
I would also add shame on them but there is no shame.

Just a comment from Australia. Palin is a laughing stock down here, and polls show support for Obama at well over 80%. Australians are conservative people, so I think this tells us something about the quality of the candidates on offer. Why does what we think matter? Because we are a very strong US ally, and because what happens in Wahington does affect us.

"I don't look to my country's leaders to provide comic relief. I look for exceptional intelligence, substance, honor, and integrity."

And what country do you live in, Laura?

Tina Fey did not need Sarah Palin's help.....Tina Fey is one of the best comedy writers out there today--- I lost count about how many emmys she won the other night. Hopefully, Tina won't "need" to play that character anymore after November 4th.

If you've been looking for exceptional intelligence, substance, honor, and integrity, you've been looking unsuccessfully forever, haven't you!

Agreed! How are people coming to the conclusion that she has substance, honor and integrity from a woman who has been on the scene for 5 weeks?! Everyone else in this race have been here for the long haul. We know them. And people are blaming her gaffes on the media? Come on! No one made her say those things. They have all been raked over the coals in the media and just because she is a woman doesn’t make her exempt. Then the rebuttal is to attack Obama's qualifications. But at this point, this is no longer about partisanship. It is just plain scary to think that people are "drinking the kool-aid" and going along with this just because she is “like them.” Well I am sorry, I don’t want someone just like me. If I remember correctly, that was same thing that got Bush elected. We then come to find out that is his “just like me” posterior was just plain ignorance to the issues.

It is not an attack at Sarah personally. It is just saying she is not ready for the job. If anyone went into a job interview talking about "joe-six pack" and "I'll betcha" it would be clearly questioned if this person was ready for the job. Particularly when that job could potentially be president of the United States! She lacks professionalism. And she will be required to speak with world leaders, many who already believe women are not to be taken seriously.

Simply said. It is not a dismissal to her ability to ONE DAY take on such a role. I just think people are saying...right now things are way to serious to take a chance on someone who speaks in the same nonsensical tone as someone else we have got to know very well over the past 8 years!

Sarah Palin is a PUPPET! And she should not get credit for being a puppet that was chosen to run along side McCain simply because she would draw votes for being a women, for being an average american and for being ignorant. Sure, she is personable and maybe a great person to have a beer with, and share some stories with but I definitely do not want the average Joe running the country. We have been there, done that and seen what has happened when we have the average Joe running things. Wake up people, that's how Bush got elected, because he could "straight talk" and appeal to the common people. Why not have someone in the White House who will not just be another Bush.

80% approval rating in Alaska? Damn she's totally ready to be VP and potentially president of the United States. That 80% must be because of her War on Terror with Russia who is known to invade Alaska aerospace.

In response to Sheena's comment, I refuse to support a woman if the woman doesn't deserve the office for which she campaigns for. I am a registered republican and decided to vote for Obama because McCain chose Palin. Not because she is a woman, but because she does not portray an image that is presidential. McCain would have had a lot more credibility if he chose Romney or even Crist to be his VP. I think that Hilary Clinton or Sec. of Defense Rice could have done the job well...not miss "hockey mom" who flirts with the American public with her "joe six-pack" comments and evasive answers. Highly disappointed!

Palin makes me sick, i have lots of respect for McCain but with a little 'bulldog' like her i cant believe anyone would support that campaign. When questioned all she does is defer questions and never gives answers. Winks and 'folksy charm'? are you kidding me? This isn't a beauty pageant. We need leaders, people with new initiatives, new ideas. Not someone that is unable to give specific answers on any issue because she is afraid that she will sound stupid, like she did on her last TV interview. How about Palin talk about what happened in Katie Couric interview? Or How about you explain how you fired your employee for no reason? Or that you believe in witchcraft? Bridge to nowhere? Or that women must keep there baby even if they were raped by here father? Funny how even if your asked that question directly you cant even give a straight answer ( She said 'i would advise the raped woman to keep that baby', But if you had your way it would be illegal to have it any other way, nice, choice in a democracy). Im sure there are MANY more things i could mention. The republican campaign once again, like every year, has turned into fear-mongering and smearing. Its too bad they would rather divide America, and plunge us into a deeper hole then fix the problems there own party has caused. Instead of talking about why Americans shouldn't vote for Obama, how about you talk about WHY SHOULD WE VOTE FOR YOU? What will you do?

1. Sarah Palin for Vice-President? No.
2. Instead, she should be crowned QUEEN: Queen-of-Daytime-TV! Absolutely purrr-fect for that role!

Dear God ! Lighten up haters... Would you rather have a peice of dry toast up there with no sence of humor.. I'd like to see you run in an election and see what crap they come up with about you.. can you handle it ?? At least she rolling with the punches..

No matter who you are voting for in this election it is evident that we need reform of our electoral system. Candidates have spent millions of dollars over the last 18 months. Some candidates 50 million a month during that time. Six months of this would be more than enough and all that money could be used in a more beneficial way.

The tone of our nations crticism and meanness toward all candidates is a sad commentary about our Society. People seem to enjoy tearing down the character of those running for public office. False accusations, smears, vulgarity, ridiculing people are all the acceptable way of one expressing their feelings about a candidate.
There is little regard for the truth or the good name of the person being attacked.

Yeah, let's "pretend" you're a moron, running for vp-just so a no name comedian will have material.....r-i-g-h-t, keep telling yourself that, gosh darnit. Even "joe 6-pack" isn't that lame.

To all of you who think Palin is not experienced!!

Remember, she is only running for VP!

Obama the lightweight thinks he can be presdedient. That is the real joke!!!! I like him as a person. He talks good, looks good, moves good. But this isn't a TV show like the West Wing. We need a predsident that really knows something. Obama is a pandering socialist! Remember

Socialism breeds mediocrity,

Just Say NO TO SOCIALISM (vote McCain)

I agree fully. We need a professional who can answer the needed questions so we can see exactly where she stands on important issues. I agree from Laura's point fully. If she was elected, we would be a laughing stock.

It looks like the Democrats are running scared when they put so much energy and expense into ridiculing Sara Palin. If Sara is as dumb, as unimportant as they want you to believe, why don't they totally ignore her? She is flying too high for their comfort, has so much credibility and popularity that they have to keep sending out the spurious word that Sara is just dumb, dumb.

I think we need to get something straight: Palin is a great woman, and she definitely has experience and political wisdom. That said, we should also consider if she is indeed ready to take on the second highest leadership position in this country. If she is running for the post of VP, it ought to be arguable that she is in fact the second most qualified person in the US to fulfill the responsibilities of that post. I don't know if we can all agree on that...

Furthermore, it's clear that she doesn't know too much- just replay scenes from that VP debate; what tanks though is that there are red-necks and ingenuous fools who find her 'straight talk' appealing. STRAIGHT TALK? If you're asked a question, and you parry it with an answer to another question...that's called 'straight talk'?
Let's put her respectable, kind, and clever nature to the side for a second, and look at it purely impartially...do you really think she is best fit for Vice President of the United States of America? Please, think about it.

Two things stand out to me as I have listened and participated in our Political Process. First the process needs to change. One reason is the inordinate amount of time and money that is spent during an 18 month campaign. Millions of dollars that could be spent in a more beneficial way.
Secondly the tone of our campaigns have become more and more filled with false accusations, inuendos,meanness,name-calling etc.. The issues are lost and the characters of the candidates are constantly under attack. This does not speak well of our Society. Many are more interested in scathing rhetoric than seeking the truth in a civil manner. As citizens our efforts would be better spent trying to change the system than reading the latest gossip about the candidates and their families.

SARAH PALIN IS GRASPING AT BRAINS!
SHE IS SLOW UP TOP, AND ALASKA KNOWS IT!
SHE IS FOOLISH FOR ALLOWING THE GOP TO USE HER,
THEY KNOW WHEN THIS IS OVER, SHE WON'T BE HEARD
FROM EVER AGAIN!
THE ECONOMY IS WHIPPING HER AND MCCAIN, THEY CAN
SLING ALL THE MUD THEY WANT, THE ECONOMY ISN'T
GOING ANYWHERE!
THE ECONOMY IS A WORLD PROBLEM NOW, AND OBAMA
THE HARVARD GRAD IS THE ONLY ONE WHO HAS A PLAN
TO PUT AMERICA TO WORK, NOT BARBIE AND KEN!
