The scoop from Washington

Obama's confident Plouffe "the die is being cast as we speak."

COLUMBIA, MO--The cash rich Obama campaign is taking aim at John McCain in his homestate of Arizona, putting up 30-second television ads there, Georgia and North Dakota in the closing days of the campaign.

In a telephone briefing Friday morning, Obama campaign manager David Plouffe said "the die is being cast as we speak" as theory is turning into reality: early vote information is all trending in Barack Obama's favor.

"We like where we are," said Plouffe speaking from the Chicago headquarters. The McCain camp plans a conference call with its top brass later in the day

The campaign is running negative spots in Georgia and North Dakota and an upbeat spot in Arizona.

A reason for Plouffe's optimism: He says there remains a deep pool of sporadic Democratic voters and first time voters who all lean Obama.

In battleground Florida, Obama is doing well with younger Cuban Americans, Plouffe said. (Still, the campaign put out the call for reinforcements in the state.)

Of the battleground states, "Florida has the biggest pool of sporadic voting Democrats," Plouffe said.

The question is, "who's left?" said Plouffe.

Remaining big targets: suburban independent voters.

Obama Friday travels from Columbia, Missouri to Des Moines, Iowa, Pueblo, Colorado, and Highland, Indiana, near Gary and winds up in Las Vegas.

Before heading to northwest Indiana, Obama returns to his Chicago South Side home to be with his daughters, Malia, 10, and Sasha, 7, for Halloween.
